Charles Godfrey Takes Large PAYCUT

@captain_41: Wow really I can't believe this smh #dirtygame

I assume this stone hand midget is talking about this

He may be 'smh'ing again when he sees how Rick Spielman operates if he thinks Captain's not worth what he's getting paid.

This is how real NFL teams work.

Trying to get Kraken signed? or are we saving this for Cam/Luke?

Thoughts?

Will help with either or both ... However, this seems like general housekeeping.  No way is Godfrey worth his contract.  Probably DG just saying this is what we'll pay you or there's the door.

Achilles injuries are devastating to guys in positions where they have to be quick and cut abruptly as well as accelerate rapidly.  Godfrey knew that he was largely unmarketable to any other team and that if he were cut he would be taking a significant paycut anyway.  So why not stay, potentially earn 2.5 million (more than he would get elsewhere) and show us and other teams that he has rehabbed back to being a starter.  Meanwhile we save significant money, don't need him to be the starter and can allow him to rehab and come back to his former ability.  It is a win-win for everyone.

From what I can tell this was not Godfrey doing anything for the team.  This is what happens when a player has a devastating injury which essentially kills his value.  The same thing happened with Beason.  Look where he was with us and what he ended up with in New York.  If Godfrey has a great year he is right in the mix again to earn his money or get a big payday elsewhere.

Did anyone not think this was going to happen?

Love this move! Well done GMan. Frees Cap, Keeps a Vet that knows the defense & play multiple positions. The other Safety signings allow Godfrey to ease back into things not risky injury. Well done Godfrey for taking the pay cut unlike others. With a CB in the draft the secondary looking a lot better then last year. Gives us money to sign draft picks now & possibly Wharton.

I would have rather cut him outright, and used that money on some vets that get cut during roster trim down. But good news is good news

Cutting him would have created dead money, something we don't need right now. This made way more sense.
