Charles Godfrey Takes Large PAYCUT

I think this was a smart decision overall even though i would rather have seen him cut. This leaves the door open for the small chance he comes good again as a nickle corner or a back up safety if Harper or DeCoud get injured without looking for a new replacement.

In point of cold hard fact, this move is justified, even good.

On a personal level though, ya gotta feel for the guy.  I can't imagine where I'd be or what I'd be doing after being told I lost that much money in one day.

But then, you can't really be afraid to make those kinds of decisions if you want to run a successful pro football team, can you?

Oh, I gotcha.  i didn't even catch that.  I'm so old school I just naturally said the original term, but if you look at the Urban Dictionary, you'll see that "my bag" was the original term.

The Urban Dictionary:

The term "My Bag" was originally slang for taking responsibility for one's own actions. Somewhere in the early 90s people started saying "My bad" either because they wanted to change the verbage of the original, or because they just plain didn't understand the original meaning. "My Bag" is slang for "Baggage",ie: You take your own problems, put them in a bag and carry it on your own back. "It's on me, my fault, my problem. "My Bag" excepts and takes the burden, "My Bad" just dismisses it.

BTW, I think they meant "accepts" as oppose to "excepts".

June 1st cut, saves 5.1 mil

Yes but you gotta pay back 2.5 mil next year. Salary cap saving carries over to next year.

You can keep him for 850K + up to 1.7 mil assuming he is active for all 16 games ---> if his ankle isnt good you can make him inactive and just pay him 850K  ---> saves 6.7mil in salary cap ---> very sneaky because if you planned to cut him anyway just place him in the inactive list and his contract goes from 7.5mil to 850K without the 2.5mil of dead money. Brilliant!!!   If he can play and contribute the entire season he makes 2.5 mil

Cutting him nets dead money of 2.5 mil this year and 2.5 mil next year. This way at worst we lose 850K this year and we cut him next year.

Nah, man. For real.  Not a typo. Ask anyone you know who is in their mid to late 40s who grew up in the Northeast or Midwest (i.e., Cleveland, Detroit and Chicago) in at least halfway urban parts of the city about the term, and they will confirm that it was pretty much a ubiquitous term. They probably slip up and say "my bag" every once in a while also.  I say it fairly often.  My son used to make fun of me, then I showed him the same thing. Now he just shakes his head.  The first time i heard "my bad" i was like "Huh?".  It's just a generational thing.  Where "my bag" may have been isolated to the urban, mostly black America during the 80s, "my bad" for whatever reasons (least of which is social media) broke out into the mainstream.

I just say "my bad" these days because its meaning is pervasive throughout American culture, but that's only when I'm thinking about it. When I'm just going about my day, I might utter "my bag" without even realizing it.

Tie you to a chair and show you his movie clips.

Gotta remember Smitty was gonna give us another million in June even before this.

I'll see if I can find the source on that.

But that still wouldn't be enough to pay for our rookies.
