A very fair analysis of the Carolina Panthers

This time last year everyone was saying we didn't have enough pieces.  We got Star and Short but our Free Agent pickups were a waste of money. 

 

The majority of those player we signed contributed greatly to our success.

 

Gettleman and Rivera added talent that fits our scheme and they did it again this year.

 

People need to stop looking at these players at what they did with their previous teams.   These players were brought in because they fit what we do.  They were given a tryout, so to speak.  McDermott, Shula, Rivera and G-man decided they will fit.  We just didn't add players to add players.

 

Furthermore, we have some OL returning from injury.   G-man will have a solid draft and fill the holes we need to put this team as good as any.

 

Mitchell, Ginn and our other FA adds were nobody's before they came here.   This year we have solid group that IMO are a better FA crop then last year.  Replacing nearly ever one of these positions. 

 

The absolute insane negativity from this forum could drive anyone crazy.

 

Gettleman is NOT HURNEY.   He has added a good FA crop to a good team.  he will have a great draft because he is a good evaluator of talent.  Well compete and we will fight once again for the NFC South title.

If we decide to keep Godfrey our secondary will actually be pretty solid if we add a 2nd or 3rd round pick in the mix. White, Cason, 3rd Round Pick, Godfrey, DeCoud, Harper, Lester, and maybe another rookie is more than enough to go with our front 7. Not an elite group by any means, but definitely not a group that will hinder us.

Amini will be back which should help the OL. We also have an unknown in Kugbila, who could end up contributing  If we can get a starter quality OT in the first and a decent WR in the second we will be at least the same as we were last year, maybe slightly better. Biggest question mark will still be WR, and that is the only place I am truly concerned will hurt us this year. OL is a bit thin as well, but I think it can be passable if our 1st round OT and Amini play well. 

Also keep in mind our young guys such as Star, KK, Melvin White, and AJ Klien should be improved with a year under their belt. I truly expect Star to be a Pro-Bowler this season if he stays healthy. I don't really see anyone on the current roster slipping off in production...except maybe D-Will, but we have enough depth at the position to be ok.

We had a lot not go our way too. Even with Jordan Gross retiring I expect our offensive line to be better this year. (assuming we draft one guy worth a damn). Assuming we draft one receiver capable of catching 40 balls our WR core will be better too. And assuming Cam's ankle heals well he should be better this year too. That's a lot of assumptions but it's May, everyone is assuming.

 

Captain developed into a serviceable starter but he was never a star. I don't see him as a massive loss. Same with Mike Mitchell. We liked his attitude but he was never a pro bowler. Just a decent starter who gave up plays a little too often. I recently watched the 49ers tape and a bunch of the guys that didn't perform well that day are gone. Maybe Gettleman saw that and declined to match those inflated offers they received.

 

Luke will be a year wiser. The Kraken may be in his second contract year. Star and KK have a years experience. I think that "ripped the heart out of their team" line was a bit over dramatic. Cam, Kuechly, and Star are the heart of this team. Kalil and TD are our wise old men. AJ Klein is a promising young guy. Wouldn't it be a shock if Jonathan Stewart played some good football? We didn't lose Greg Olsen....we lost Ben Hartstock. It's gonna be ok.

 

Just looking at our roster I don't see it as worse. It's probably not better. But that will all be sorted in September. Some players will go down. Some will surprise us.

You people are crazy. No tackle out of the draft would be better than Gross, and we have not definitely upgraded our secondary. WR currently is a little worse but if we draft a quality #1 it could be equal or better. Regardless though, no matter what, our o-line wont't be as good as last year's.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if this team goes 13-3 or even 14-2. To go 12-4 against the schedule we had last year was amazing. This schedule is easier. This team last year was a very difficult team to beat. They were one of the elite teams at being physical in the trenches. That hasn't been diminished at all.

DG will continue to bring in heavy competition at every position minus maybe QB and RB. That is the part that Hurney didn't seem to understand. True competition brings out the best in every one.

 

Want to know how good you can really be at doing your job? Let them bring in someone that could potentially replace you - that's actually pretty good.

The article made a lot of sense, they're a couple of places that cannot be addressed all in one draft but in my opinion as long as the offensive side of the ball improves the rest will follow. It was mainly our offense that crippled the Panthers, forcing the defense to come up with big plays. If the O-line and WR positions can be improved even slightly in this years draft then Panthers should have every reason to feel optimisic about the season
