Voth talks with Jonathan Stewart

Mr. Scot

When healthy he's a beast, no doubt Stewie causes opposing defenses lots of trouble him and DWill together causes ...

Double Trouble.

I am optimistic he will be back in top form this season. If that is the case he should take D-Will's starting spot and give the league pure hell this year.

I know it is a little wishful but he is talented enough to do it.

they pay their one twice as much because they are twice as good as our two

Since essentially only one of our two has seen the field that is likely true.  But if Stewart does return to form that might not the case this year.  Who knows..................

I agree the RB isn't the biggest drain on the cap.  CJ is going to count about 16mil and Hardy 13.  CJ then drops to 12 and hopefully he'll stick around at a more fair contract or we free up 13mil via Hardy.  TD and Olsen aren't favorable to the cap either.  At some point I expect both will face a decision as well.  Both seem like the kind of people that might help the team out.  But if not, there's about 14mil combined in 2 players.  (rough guess without checking)

however, if we are paying a combined 10mil to these 2 RBs and aren't getting production anywhere near their worth without also splurging on OL, then I'd rather invest that money into the OL and depend on Gettleman to find talented RBs in later rounds..

don't get me wrong, obviously we are in this situation and must deal with it going forward..    I just hope the future philosophy doesn't involve such high investments on little return (even if that return is only in the form of an average 3 year life expectancy)..

I think you can be assured that Gettleman doesn't go hog wild paying players who don't produce.  Seems to me he doesn't want to pay players even when they do produce.

At this point I could care less if he returns to form,  Panthers are just stuck overpaying a declining RB who can't stay healthy when they should be looking for younger RB who can actually see the field and contribute.

Tre Mason in the 3rd Round?

He has been hurt but is only 27 and can't be declining if he hasn't seen the field.  We don't know what he has left until we see it.  Hopefully that turns around this year.  Maybe it will be the next feel good story like Davis was in 2013.

Yep. He also won't pay players for what they've done in the past.

Why in the hell does any team have a RB on the roster who is getting paid on a second contract? (Unless his name ends in "Peterson.")

"

having good running backs that can do something other than run, is not as easy to find.

Try finding a back that can pass block right out of college, and ya have a day one rb in the draft.

I like Tre Mason.

Don't expect him to end up here, though.

Yea it's too bad I think Tre is going to be good at the next level, plus his Dad is Maseo from De La Soul.

There's only one TD though, we'll just have to wait and see.

Even if he comes back healthy and is available for every game, his production will not match his salary. He would literally need to have the best season of his career for production to match salary.

You know what is the most frustrating thing about all this? We can't even replace them. They make so much damned money we can't cut them. Every year I see young, hungry running backs going in rounds 3-6 and it's a given we won't consider them. Yeah we brought in Barner as a developmental change of pace back. But there are really solid players out there we don't draft because we can't get them on the field.

I like Deangelo and I like Stewart. But sometimes it feels like we are on Scholarship reduction.

that is true..  I forget who I was listening to but they made this point.  Hardly any RBs come out of college anymore having the ability to pass block largely due to never being asked.  Which brings up the fact that they shouldn't resort to drafting a 1st round RB just due to 3rd downs who may still have a huge pass blocking concern.

So they may have to continue with the likes of bringing in a Mike Tolbert who more than fits the bill as a 3rd down back.  And cheaper.  The Panthers may have to continue that route but I think it's one that is possible.  The massive benefit is you don't force yourself to invest on all the turnover at that position.

The blocking is a good point, but when they negotiate contracts...

Usual huddlers let me say firstly you are disappointing to listen to, and I can't believe how fickle you can be. Or how you change your opinions at the first sign of successes shamelessly as though you had faith all along -_- shameful all of you and I feel bad for poor stew having to deal with such terrible fans the fact is yes his contract is bad but his willingness to restructure should tell you something...
