Voth talks with Jonathan Stewart

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

This interview is the equivalent of the Jon Beason topless workout video. It sounds awfully good in May, but he will probably miss OTA's, Training Camp, Preseason, then come in the regular season and not do a whole lot before getting injured again. I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt it.

I  can't wait until the season starts and bring some of this comments back.

Some teams like the Vikings and Eagles almost pay what do for 2 guys and that is for 1 guy.  I suspect if Stewart were totally healthy we would have parted ways with Williams but can't at this point.  Is it ideal? No far from it, but they are not the big drain on the cap that some people make it out to be.

they pay their one twice as much because they are twice as good as our two

Even if he was "healthy" and "productive" again and by some miracle hit a 1000 yard season, he'd still be getting overpaid.

Well in case you haven't notice the OL has some impact on the productivity of a rb

And that's why I'd rather have studs on the OL and a no name back than any back other than Adrian Peterson and mediocre line....pretty sure everyone would make that choice though if they had the option.

At this point I could care less if he returns to form,  Panthers are just stuck overpaying a declining RB who can't stay healthy when they should be looking for younger RB who can actually see the field and contribute.

Tre Mason in the 3rd Round?

I like Tre Mason.

Don't expect him to end up here, though.

We are dedicated to running the ball, the question is better stated how effective are we at this point.  We ran the ball 483 times and Cam accounted for 111 of those meaning we ran the ball 372 times without him and if we could block better and Stewart were healthy it would likely be even more.  If we improve the o-line expect us to do it over 500 times this year.

I agree the RB isn't the biggest drain on the cap.  CJ is going to count about 16mil and Hardy 13.  CJ then drops to 12 and hopefully he'll stick around at a more fair contract or we free up 13mil via Hardy.  TD and Olsen aren't favorable to the cap either.  At some point I expect both will face a decision as well.  Both seem like the kind of people that might help the team out.  But if not, there's about 14mil combined in 2 players.  (rough guess without checking)

however, if we are paying a combined 10mil to these 2 RBs and aren't getting production anywhere near their worth without also splurging on OL, then I'd rather invest that money into the OL and depend on Gettleman to find talented RBs in later rounds..

don't get me wrong, obviously we are in this situation and must deal with it going forward..    I just hope the future philosophy doesn't involve such high investments on little return (even if that return is only in the form of an average 3 year life expectancy)..
