Voth talks with Jonathan Stewart

the dead money is staggering. He'll be with us the next couple of years no

matter how he performs. No point in paying him to not be here.

I swear to god if I saw Hurney at Applebee's I'd punch his dumb ass.

So how is a 6 million cap hit for Deangelo Williams that horrific.  And Stewart's cap hit this year is only 4,585.000.  Together than is less than 1/13 of the cap.  It is not the reason we are hurting for cap space this year but is always the same tired reason fans say we are so hurting.  As far as cap hits go among running backs- Williams is 8th on the list and Stewart is 11th.  For a team which is committed to running as much as we do, how would you not have a significant amount of the cap devoted to running backs.  We need 2 guys who can start not a starter and a backup.  What makes Stewart cap hit so bad is that he hasn't played much in 2 years but if he comes back with a vengence his money will be well spent this year.  The last 2 years, not so much.......................

And no with Cam running he is not the running game or the reason to not have a starting caliber type guy or two.

How many teams have two players in the Top 15 RB cap hit list?

Well on the bright side his legs should be fresh, and he hasn't taken the same beating most 27 year old backs have. So maybe we get some value out of him.

Riding the equivalent of 8,979,276 miles on a stationary bike has got to play hell on the legs.

There is this misconception that we are this team dedicated to running. Rivera talked about all of our 100 yard rushing games this year. Take Cam out of the mix and how many yards rushing do we average?

I understand you hate him.

Stay out of my positive post.

TYVM.

i don't hate him.

i just think he's pretty useless because he's always hurt. he was good. he has talent. he doesn't play. he just rides a bike.

Some teams like the Vikings and Eagles almost pay what do for 2 guys and that is for 1 guy.  I suspect if Stewart were totally healthy we would have parted ways with Williams but can't at this point.  Is it ideal? No far from it, but they are not the big drain on the cap that some people make it out to be.

We are dedicated to running the ball, the question is better stated how effective are we at this point.  We ran the ball 483 times and Cam accounted for 111 of those meaning we ran the ball 372 times without him and if we could block better and Stewart were healthy it would likely be even more.  If we improve the o-line expect us to do it over 500 times this year.

Which is why I keep arguing for OT in RD1.

If there is a guy who can be plugged in at left tackle at 28, you have to jump on it.  Left tackles are almost impossible to find in free agency and they typically cost a boatload.  You only need to draft one every decade or so if you do it right and he stays healthy.  Seems worth it given we can pick up a wide receiver who can start in other rounds.

I really hope Stewart can take over the #1 RB role.  D-Will is 31 and although he still showed flashes last year, he's not the top 5 RB he was in 2008 anymore.  He would be better served being a complementary piece to a workhorse back at this stage in his career.  But at the same time I wouldn't be surprised to see the Panthers grab a late round RB again either.
