Charlotte...Not a football city?

Recommended Posts

I have lived in NC my entire life, but only in Charlotte for over a year. Sometimes I didn't even feel like I was in NC being in Charlotte. Charlotte is not yet a football city, but it is getting there. Consistent winning is paramount, but also having guys like Cam and Luke really gets people on the wagon.

Although, I am very concerned about the future of tailgating in Uptown. A lot of our precious parking lots have buildings on them now, and even Morehead St. lots are getting construction done. I don't really want to end up tailgating in a parking deck.

like in 2010, when it was empty except for 30,000 Ravens fans.

That was my first Panthers game. I was looking around in disbelief thinking "WTF?!" Lol, good times. Brian St. Pierre for the loss, baby!!!

I have been to many games at Ralph Wilson Stadium and have had PSLs for the last nine years. I also have been to games in Cleveland. I love the Panthers but agree for the most part fans up there are much more passionate than fans down here (also more intoxicated at games). They are louder and live for their team 24/7 all year long. The best way to equate it is the passion fans of college sports are down here is how they are their toward their NFL team.

Charlotte certainly isn't a football city. I don't know how it could be argued that it's even close to one.

It's hard to build a new football culture when it costs as much as it does to attend games.

With that said remember all the trouble franchises had selling playoff tickets last year? They kept extending deadlines. Ours sold out in 7 minutes.

But again...PSLs. We only put 7k tickets on sale and the rest PSL owners had to buy.

Green bay had 50k or something as did the other teams

Thanks to 49er fans. Section 519, 520, and 521 were about 90% San Fran fans. Douchebags even had a defense chant going. And that was at the first home playoff game in years. Charlotte is just a mixed bag of bandwagon and transplants. Another problem is there are a large number of PSL owners that are brokers and sell the tix. A lot of PSL owners simply sell out as well, but I was talking to a broker recently that owned double digit PSLs. He gets seats at a discount from the team and sells for a profit. So the Panthers organization is as guilty as the crappy fans in our region.

I think if the Panthers could get a run on winning, a 5-10 year run, Charlotte would be a better football city than people around the country think. plus then maybe all the hold out redskin, steeler and falcon fans would finally support the local team.

random, but an interesting point I'm going to hijack here.. if half of the residents of Charlotte (let's include Raleigh, same thing occurs there too) are transplants.. and really, I come across a much higher ratio day to day on a smaller scale... then who exactly are yankees complaining about that can't drive in the snow down here?

it is in fact these same people...

They make that claim but I don't believe anyone that thinks 4x4 is the only thing you need to drive in snow.

I haven't even read the article, but I can tell you this. Our Sunday night game against the Steelers this season will be 40% (at least) Steeler fans. That is the problem. Since I moved back to Charlotte in 2005, the fanbases of the Giants, Steelers, Ravens, Skins, Eagles, Bengals, Pats, Browns, Packers, Bears, Vikings, Dolphins, Jets, Cowboys, Bills, 49ers, and Broncos have all owned our stadium at one time or another. Until that changes BofA will always be viewed as a joke. And that stupid sell out streak is a joke. They flash that crap up at the games, like in 2010, when it was empty except for 30,000 Ravens fans.

That's changing. Last season we went 7-1 at home.

We have 100+ sellouts at boa

How dare you bring facts into this argument with a guy who has a last name that just looks made up

Sure, it's possible and could be probable. But it is not there now. I don't see how Joe D was wrong in his assessment. There may never be fanbases like those that were created early in the blue collar areas when games were affordable.

Yes. My section was infested with 49er tards. Save for me and some whacked out pot head, it would have been solely red and gold. Pathetic.

I don't think I can ever say it enough....it's time for a culture change in this city and with our fans. It's up to all of us to do our parts....I know I do mine.

Yeah. I'm about as rabid as they come. I always hope my supreme enthusiasm rubs off on some of these People, but alas....
