quarter life crisis?

Jakob

Recommended Posts

Here was my 26-year-old crisis, it's still on-going:

My knee hurts and I can't remember the last time I had a calzone for fear of gaining 5 pounds. If this is how I feel at 26, I can see why people in their mid-40s complain all the time.

For some reason, and I could be wrong, I remember asking you why you didn't have your license, a job, or why you weren't in school quite a long time ago.

You need to get off your ass and get moving.  It's Sunday, make the start tomorrow morning when you wake up.  Get to bed before midnight, set your alarm for 7:30 tomorrow, and start on the license, don't stop for one day until you have that in your hand.

As soon as you start that process, start looking for a job, any job close to where you live so you can start saving a little bit of money.  Speaking of, how do you eat, pay for clothes, afford electricity and water...etc?

It's summer time now, and I'm going to guess that you have a high school diploma, maybe I shouldn't, but whatever.  It's probably too late for first session of summer school, but you need to either look into school loans, or paying out of pocket for second session, and start your "core" classes at the local community college.  Some of us can help you with that if you will want us to.  The good thing about summer classes, is they are shorter, and the prof's don't want to be there any more than you, and you can knock a few not so fun classes out in just a few weeks.

After 2nd session, you need to commit to the fall and going to classes, don't wait for anyone to tell you, take the bull by the horns and commit.  Get a few semesters under your belt, and start looking at universities in state that would work for your budget, and figure out what you need to do to get there.

Don't wait a week, a month, or another quarter.  Get up and start preparing for your life, because one day you will wake up, and it won't be so easy and care free.

P.S. It's Wednesday, did you get your ass up on Monday and start working toward a better life, or continue down the same old path?

There has been some good info tossed around in here, with no commentary from the OP.

What's your deal man?  Honestly, people are trying to help you here.

I'm waiting for the thread to die down a little bit and I was going to reply to all the good posts at once.

You sound like a good kid.

Here is my advice for you:

Stop feeling sorry for yourself because no one will feel sorry for you.

Stop making excuses. Instead of telling us what you haven't done, tell us what you have or what you are doing to fix it.

The prevailing problem that I have encountered with others in your position is that they want to get from 0-100 overnight. Many get dismayed over the idea of having to put in the time and and work. Take baby steps, and in a few years, you can look back and see the large progress you have made over time with small steps.

Remember where you are and remember you don't want to be here anymore.

Getting older has been a dual edge sword for me.  Women are much more attracted to me, but I usually feel too shitty to care.

I think I'd rather have my youth back and all of the fake problems that come with it.
