Good reasoning. I sitll believe he will be a bust, I'd rather they pick him in the second where it won't be a bigger waste than in the first. Especially when there are other players that are safer and better picks than him. Hope that makes sense, if it doesn't. Oh well, can't explain it to you any clearer.

I just have trouble with the concept of saying someone is a bust but still being ok with using a second on them. If they are going to be a bust wouldn't you just not take them and use the 2nd on somebody else?

Cosell likes him. I mean everybody has their own opinions. has big upside but he has to work on his hands.

most people said a lot of the same things about cam...everyone turning on kelvin could be very wrong..lol

The game is mostly mental, having a player who has come out and said that he takes plays off and is lazy just doesn't translate to the NFL. While we are on the subject of Cooks lets use him as an example. He may look like Steve Smith and play like him but will he ever be as great?? What made Smitty so great was his sack of chips and his killer work ethic. In other words it was mental.

Well, the more they drop, the more they become a 'value' pick. If he drops to us at the second round, when he is projected to go late 1st or early second. Then that is a value pick. Every player has a bust rate, but work ethic dictates this. His work ethic has been questioned, by himself as well. There comes a point that his talent and upside will force a team to pick him even if he is dropping. Aaron Rodgers comes to mind. No his work ethic was not questioned but he dropped regardless, the Packers knew he was a projected top 10 pick, so they grabbed him in the first. Late first. Turns out he wasn't a bust. Good for them. KB will slide. How far? I don't know. If he is there at 60 and there are no other players better than him, you take him. Again, these are a lot of variables when it comes to drafting. Ultimately, we're not in the drivers seat for this. Gettleman is. With Phroel doing the scouting on all these WR's. If Benjamin isn't picked, I won't be crying over it. Vice versa, if he is picked, they saw something in him to pull the trigger.

Good points but if someone is a sure-fire bust like you think he is. It makes no sense to draft him at all.

I don get into the whole "character issue" thing unless it is confirmed arrests or reports. Too much stuff is hearsay nowadays. Didnt cam have character issues? What he has you cant teach. 6' 5" with ball skills and good speed. He would immediately be a redzone threat and a 3rd down threat.

Here's the thing:

we aren't drafting him, I promise you. He has such a limited route tree, and was an unwilling blocker in college. He doesn't fit at all with the Rivera mold, and Gettleman sure as hell won't fall in love with him because he can't contribute day 1.

If he was there in the second maybe, but then I'd be overly concerned why he fell all the way to 60.

He's not a bad prospect by any means, but he isn't a Carolina Panthers prospect.

Exactly. He's so raw, DG drives home more than anything the need to play immediately.

There is never going to be another Steve Smith. There will be a lot like him but never the same. Desean Jackson might be the only one that comes close and he can't hold Smitty's jock strap in his prime.

Work Ethic is a value, or the belief in moral benefit of work and its ability to enhance our character.

In the absence of work ethic, external motivators are the driving force behind productive behaviors.  Motivational forces like coaches, paychecks, endorsements, etc.

I do not put much value into NFL players "work ethic" as their rewards are often externally motivated.  Give me a coach who can motivate a player and he can succeed in the absence of internal motivation.

A coach can not give someone motivation. Motivation is something that is inherent to you. Motivation is in my opinion the key for future success.

Let me give you my example.

Jeff Otah, Armanti, D Jarret = lack motivation. Did you see these guys fight for their position? Did they really really want it? Do you think a coach can change the mindset of someone like Jamarcus Russel or Otah? It is the same as a teacher trying to teach a kid with no interest to learn.

The great ones

Cam, Luke, TD, Smith = truly are motivated. TD came back from 3 ACL tears. That is motivation. Otah got injured and never came back. You think Ron Rivera is going to change Otah's mindset? Very doubtful

Motivation can be intrinsic or external.  Motivation occurs on a spectrum and fluctuates with time and situation.  While intrinsic motivation is most highly coveted and often labeled as "work ethic" it is not necessary. A player like Steve Smith is motivated by competition and a feeling of persecution. These motivating factors are not necessarily "work ethic." Most players are financially motivated.  For an example of this, please see Greg Hardy's participation in off-season workouts.  Yet, we don't say Hardy isn't motivated.  He is just financially motivated, like most players in the NFL.

I would argue that Otah was not internally or externally motivated. He is probably your best example of a player who just never could light that fire.   Armanti Edwards just lacked the talent and ability.  I fear D Jarret lacked general intelligence among other factors that allow players to succeed.
