Lets Talk Amini

Recommended Posts

Step 1: Don't use youtube as a be all end of all of evaluation

Step 2: Tape games on tivo or get NFL rewind or (can't mention here website).

Step 3: Watch Amini in pass block situations

Step 4: Evaluate your "potential to be great" on what he currently is now.

Step 5: Read my post again in that context

Agree his pass blocking could definitely use some fine tuning compared to his run blocking. Even if he stays healthy throughout the season I say yr 4 is when he really puts it all together. Still possibly being a great run blocker better then nothing considering are OLine at the moment. So what do u think about Chandler potential?

If you have some examples show us. It sounds like you are working off year old memory and arguing with someone that watched it 3 days ago.

I am not arguing with anyone.  If you read some of my post about Amini I was worried coming into the season and made in-depth post regarding that.  I am not technically savvy (don't really care) enough to figure out how to copy and upload games from NFL rewind to post.  I am not even gonna dig deep since I am watching the Buffalo game again this is just where I am... look at 9:22 in the 3rd quarter of the Buffalo game.  Bell gave up the sack to Mario Williams however look at the Amini block.

I rewatch all the games several times with a specific emphasis on watching the Oline play. It started off I wanted to see why our running game isn't as good as I thought it would be. I thought Deangelo had fell off or something.  We just weren't good on the Oline as a whole.   Even when we were winning when we played and above average Defensive line it was horrible.  Cam covers so many mistakes it's not funny.  I will say that Amini is not consistent in the pass game if that makes everyone feel better.

I am not a cut Amini advocate.  I think he has awesome talent.  He just makes a lot of mental mistakes as a pass blocker that I feel are unnecessary.  The fact that Cam can escape from a lot of sacks other QB's can't mask a lot of the deficiencies in our O-line.  Could it be blocking scheme? Maybe but he has been consistently bad pass blocking since he first started playing.  Everyone took the stories about him and Star battling in training camp and ran it to the conclusion that he is all pro because Star is good.  Stunt's, delays, blitz pick up in passing situations Amini is not very good.  Straight run blocking, pulling, traps stuff like that he is very good.  He needs to do both consistently well.

The good news he has all the physical tools and ability to dominate.  For that matter so does Bell believe it or not.  It's just on the field it's inconsistent.  Since we are not a pass heavy team it doesn't stand out.  You may see a long completion and think good blocking.  But if your QB has to consistently shift on his drop, break a tackle, scramble to buy time it is not good Oline play.  Especially in non blitz situations.  Where as someone might see Byron Bell giving up another sack, I might look and see he had to scramble to his right because of pressure right into Mario Williams.(not saying that's the case just an example of looking at it differently).   It's like people see him run block and say wow, then they don't pay attention to his pass blocking mistakes.
