Panthers making last minute trip to see Allen Robinson.

article today on Robinson by a Temple grad living in NYC:

"Penn State is a team that I have watched a pretty good amount of over the past year or two, and when watching them of late, one player has really stood out to me - wide receiver Allen Robinson. The big pass catcher was constantly a factor in games, and he would often pull down miraculous grabs that would leave me wondering why I had not heard more about him.

...

Robinson's best traits are his body control and ability to adjust to the ball in the air. He's a great weapon on the perimeter because the quarterback can toss the ball in his direction and Robinson will make the necessary adjustments to come down with the ball, even if the throw is placed in a tough spot. This also allows quarterbacks to often put the ball only where Robinson can get it, because he can haul in anything in his vicinity. ...Robinson is phenomenal at hauling in high passes and off-target throws

...

He does a great job at climbing the ladder and high-pointing the football. He is not fazed by traffic and is adept at reeling in catches in crowded areas. His size (6-foot-2, 220 pounds) gives him a big catch radius. Great athleticism also increases his ability to make some tough grabs.

...

He has a knack for finding soft spots in defenses and positioning himself to be an easy target for his quarterback.

...

I really like Robinson and believe that he should be a first-round draft pick. The Carolina Panthers seem to be taking quite an interest in him, and it is quite possible that they nab him with their No. 28 pick."

Pete Fiutak of Scout/CollegeFootballNews

"At 6-3 and 204 pounds Robinson has fantastic size to go along with enough deep speed to get by and great hands.

...

it’s Robinson who was the main man everything worked around on the Penn State offense ... he was targeted by defenses and still found a way to come up ... A matchup nightmare, he commanded a double team on every play. ... It didn’t matter how much attention was paid to him, he always produced."

compare 2013 seasons:

Robinson caught 1,432 of Penn State's 3,110 passing yards, next-best receiver had 333

Megatron caught 1,492 of Detroit's 4,650 passing yards, next-best receiver had 490

Eagles blog:

"For the Eagles, the diamond in the rough is Penn State's Allen Robinson, a player who has slipped relatively under the radar.

Robinson is a large receiver, standing 6'2" and weighing 220 pounds..with an excellent 39" vertical...What Robinson also brings to the table are great hands and fantastic body control. ... As good of a player as Desean Jackson was, he was never a true go-to receiver due to his small stature. Larger targets, however, are never completely covered. With Robinson, the Eagles could finally have a go-to receiver, someone the quarterback could turn to in times of duress.

But Robinson is not just a large target. He is underrated running after the catch. He does not possess a blazing 40-yard dash time, but..Robinson makes up it by changing direction quickly and having great field vision. ... A player of such talent and versatility would have Kelly salivating. The possibilities with Robinson to exploit mismatches, due to his size as well as his agility, would be endless.

...

Robinson may very well be available in the second round... The priority of the Eagles should still be to upgrade the defense at 22nd overall. The receiver class is deep enough that it is more important to add a punishing safety like Calvin Pryor.

Selecting Robinson in the second round (at #54) would give the Eagles the perfect player for their scheme and for the best value.

Robinson, alongside Maclin, Cooper, Brent Celek and Zach Ertz, would give the Eagles one of the best passing attacks in the NFL"

Lions blog community mock had Tampa Bay taking Robinson at #38

"He is big, athletic, strong wide receiver who's not shy at all when it comes to taking a hit while making a tough catch over the middle. In this regard, Robinson draws comparisons to an Anquan Boldin-style receiver. With his tremendous leaping ability, long reach and great hands, he has a huge catch radius.

... I believe him to be a perfect complement to Vincent Jackson"

Here's a thought.    Over the last couple of days as the QBs fall like Lead Zepplins and teams are jocking to move back into the late first round.   Maybe we are going to trade 28 away and pick up and extra pick or two.   Robinson would be in the right spot for the extra pick we use.

Both dodo's (Joe person and JJ) said they think Robinson is an option in the second but not the first.

Both said Kelvin Benjamin, is a guy they'd take if there at 28 fwiw (which isn't alot).

This is from the live chat they did at lunch today.

I am just not that big a Benjamin fan.

I like Robinson because he's 2 years and then some younger than KB.

However after watching KB finish the season strong with his games against Flordia and Duke I thought there was NO WAY he'd be available at 28.

I know it gets tiring to hear but you can't teach size. If KB's the pick ill be happy because he instantly becomes a threat in the red zone.

I worry about KB's hands and route running though. A big guy like that is usually going to rely on his size to get separation. He did get away with alot of offensive PI's though.

I want a WR so bad this year that I may have talked some of these prospects up too much in my head.

Wanted to share this. Not to over do it with the Robinson hype, but he really is a plug and play guy. I've been watching some of my favorites as the draft approaches but you can see here he does it all. Pro system, beats press, runs the routes, footwork, screens, acrobatic catches, elusiveness, size, speed, athleticism, he even runs it out the backfield. I would be surprised to see him in the first

Greg Peshek of Second Round Stats

Drop Rate

5.43% - Robinson

6.45% - Beckham

7.69% - J Matthews

"I defined drops as balls that were easy receptions and likely bounced off the hands of a WR, not passes that a WR ‘could have caught’ with an acrobatic play... There were a few 50/50 drops that I hedged on Matthews’ side for. He could realistically be anywhere between 7-11%"
