Let's see which armchair GM's admit being wrong.

WOW!!

i didnt like the Luke pick at first because i felt like Marty had invested in to many LBs in the first round.was pushing the Cam pick from day 1. felt like the QB position had to be address, and he was the bpa at the position. when QB is a need, it trumps everything.

Neither Jarrett nor Clausen were the "wrong" picks without the advantage of hindsight. Both were value picks at positions of need. You have a segment of people who didn't like the Clausen pick because of some weird fascination with his personality or because they were dead committed that Matt Moore was the future of the Panthers and Jimmeh threatened that, but the team needed players at both positions at both times. Still do at the WR position, which is laughable since the same posters who were saying "WR can wait a year" then are still saying the same thing now like 6 years later.

I was pumped about getting Clausen at 48.....my biggest mistake as of yet.

I also wanted Alshon Jeffery or Janoris Jenkins at pick # 8 in 2012 ...Honestly didn't even know much about Keuchly until after we drafted him as I never even considered researching LB's that year. Then I knew for sure we would grab Alshon at 40 when Jenkins went 39...Instead we went Amini.

Star was number 1 for me last year but if he didn't fall I wanted Keenan Allen at 14 but he fell to the third so I was way off there.

Edit...forgot about Beason...honestly can't remember who I wanted but it wasn't him. And of course I was excited about Jarrett too.

1.Which player did you disagree with when drafted that worked out good for the team??

Stewart. I was still kinda new to watching the draft so I had really rigid ideas of whom we should draft. After that year, I realized that different teams have different drafting philosophies, and that the draft is extremely hard to predict. That made me more flexible.

2. Then which pick were you fully on board with that busted out??

Oh there were plenty. Brown, Jimmy, Otah, Jarrett... I'm sure there's more but those are the ones that come to mind.

1.  Cam Newton - I wanted Patrick Peterson badly for our defense especially when I found out Luck wasn't coming out in that draft.

2.  Jimmy Clausen - After the debacle with Jake, I wanted a QB pretty badly.  I thought that he just dropped into our laps like Star did.  Boy was I wrong.

teh jimmey i thought he was the steal of the whole dam draft. i wasnt a fan of jimmey, but thought the value was unreal. a top ten pick at 48th, plus the panthers need a QB.

i was also wrong about gary barnidge. thought he was a cover2 killer.

jarrent was another, saw him in practice and said hes a "player". another value "steal".

all the others i was right about ...........

Pick I loved:

Joe Adams. I thought he was going to be Percy Harvin. I went nuts when we drafted him. I seriously believed he was a future perennial pro bowler. I was hella wrong.

Pick I hated:

Amini Silatolu. I still don't know how it's going to work out in the long run, but I was furious. Especially with some of those players still on te board that ended up being starters.

I hated our WR in 2010 w/LaFell, Gettis, and Edwards but was even worse wishing we had gotten The Carlton Mitchell.

Mocked Fua to us in 2011 and thought he'd at least be ok to use in a game.  Outside of Cam, what a truly horrendous draft that was.

Thought Pike could be a legit QB for a bit during the draft season haha

I wasn't big big on the Beason pick with Olsen still on the board, but that worked out in a way.

I also thought Matt Moore still had solid potential and got a raw deal in 2010, so wanted Dareus or AJ Green. However, Cam has been phenomenal and proven a LOT of people wrong. Very glad he was the pick.

I loved the Weinke pick.

Deshaun Foster wasn't really a bust I guess but I thought he was going to be special.

I did not like the Stewart pick

Also I tend to pride myself on QB evaluations, but I thought Jamarcus Russell was going to be a great NFL QB

Proving that even a seeminly bad GM like Hurney is light years as talent evaluator than huddlers...

I think Gettleman nailed Hurneys biggest problem in his presser the other day. Something to the effect of dont get caught thinking you're a player away...Hurney trading future first for Otah, Brown and the future 2nd for Armanti set us back a good bit.

As far as talent evaluation keep in mind we have the same scouting staff now as we did when Hurney left.

My "thank the football gods I'm not a GM" moment is easy.

In 2001 I screamed "awgodfuggindammit! Why the hell would you waste a 3rd rounder on a midget from Utah!?!?"

No other miss even comes close.
