Panthers director of college scouting Don Gregory believes "capable" starting receivers can be as found as late as the fourth round

I like it when people do this after having completely missed the point. :)

So what was your point Grasshopper?  :phone:

From your statement it would be that a team is in trouble if a 4th rounder is expected to be a starter....what did I miss.

a) you choose an extreme exception to counter a general statement. This is intellectual laziness. That is like when someone makes a claim that people who smoke tend to live a shorter lives and someone chimes in with "well my grand dad was a smoker and lived to be 120!" It changes nothing and is irrelevant.

b ) Even in the example you provided you gave a third rounder. There is a huge drop off in talent from 3 to 4. Much more drastic than between rounds 2 and 3 or even 1 and 2. By the 4th round the best players of all the positions are gone, everyone else is a much greater crap shoot.

Obviously, you zero idea what BPA is truly OR you're just in hyperbole mode because you hate the idea of not landing what you want in the draft.

Enlighten us Master Forerunner?

There are two iterations of BPA.

1) BPA in the absolute literal sense.

2) BPA in the figurative sense meaning BPA in the area of needs.

It saddens me that we are putting our hopes on a mid to late round draft pick to be our #1 WR this season.....

Who is we?  How does saying its a deep draft for receivers say that?

Not to be overly negative, but Gregory has been the director of college scouting for the following WR picks:

Dwayne Jarrett (2), Ryne Robinson (4), Brandon LaFell (3), Armanti Edwards (3), David Gettis (6), Kealoha Pilares (5), and Joe Adams (4).  In KC he helped evaluate Jeff Webb (6), Craphonso Thorpe (4), Samie Parker (4), Jeris McIntyre (6), and Snoop Minnis (3).

Other scouts on our current staff contributed to Walter Young (7), Keary Colbert (2), and Drew Carter (5).

GMs don't make their picks in a vacuum, they rely on their scouts providing good recommendations.  You ever wonder if picking WR talent is something we could improve on in our scouting staff?

Dear Mr. Proehl, we're counting on you to make a difference.

Huddlers can make all the prognostications based upon evaluations sullied by their own opinions that they want, the bottom line is that no one exactly knows what the hell we're going to do anymore than we know the man in the moon.

So many matter-of-fact attitudes here, my goodness.  I think that it will come down to Moses, Kouandjio, Cooks or Lee, but that is just an educated guess.  Ultimately, I don't know poo and will trust G-man's judgment.

At this point I don't know whether to be amused or annoyed by all the back and forth about subjects that have been discussed ad nauseam.

Kawann Short was BPA and not technically a 'need' after drafting Star Lotulelei and signing Dwan Edwards.

We're not going to draft a MLB or QB in the first round just because of BPA. The philosophy and approach will be taking is no different from last year's. We have holes at WR and OT but we also have a patchwork secondary, Johnson and Hardy will be expensive to keep together and Davis is in his 30s with a bionic knee.

Not really, Dwan is / was considered a stop gap short term fix at DT.

People need to stop throwing around BPA as if they have seen the Panther's big board. Additionally, GM's get BPA wrong every year.

I've said this many times and I will say it again. At best all one can do is group players into EXPECTED TIERS.

Tier 1 - Perennial Pro Bowler / Super Star

Tier 2 - Very good player who makes a few pro bowls

Tier 3 - Good solid starter

Tier 4 - Average decent starter

Tier 5 - Good backup / depth / special teams

Wow, in that case hell no to drafting a WR in the 1st or 2nd. Seems they dont have the slightest idea on evaluating WR's lol
