Panthers looking at LB Nate Askew

As a converted wide receiver with 4.46 speed in the 40-yard dash, Texas A&M outside linebacker Nate Askew is an intriguing draft prospect.

 

The 6-foot-4, 241-pounder has a 38-inch vertical leap, a 10-6 broad jump and bench pressed 225 pounds 18 times.

He has drawn steady interest from NFL teams, visiting the Carolina Panthers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers, according to a league source, and working out privately for the Atlanta Falcons, Philadelphia Eagles and the Houston Texans.

 

Askew returned an interception 30 yards for a touchdown last season agaisnt Sam Houston State.

He played in every game last season after switching from offense and had 33 tackles, including 22 solo tackles, with two interceptions.

 

He had a career-high seven tackles against Missouri with four solo tackles and a half-sack.

As a junior, he caught three passes for 10 yards with six receptions for 85 yards and a touchdown as a sophomore. He also returned five kickoffs for 96 yards.

 

In high school, he was an all-state wide receiver as a senior who caught 40 passes for 919 yards and seven touchdowns. He also ran back two punts for touchdowns. Aa s junior, he caught 51 passes for 856 yards and eight touchdowns.

Askew chose Texas A&M over Arkansas, Florida State, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech
