I'm not sure why you're having these thoughts. You're overthinking it -- Gettleman just believes in drafting BPA.

every GM believes in drafting BPA at a position that has issues (which for us is everything but QB, MLB, and DT). the fact that Gettleman has to warn us that he is adding DT to his BPA at a position that has issues list makes me wonder what the issues at DT are that we don't know about

I think you're blurring concepts there. BPA vs need is a sliding scale, and different teams sit on different ends of it. The Bills for example always draft for need. They prioritize certain positions and go in the draft saying "we will definitely definitely draft one of these positions". A few years ago they drafted a safety, projected to go in the 2nd round, in the top 10. Last year they drafted EJ Manuel in the 1st, when most teams would have him rated as a 2nd round prospect or later. Their history shows that they have a tendency to reach for need. The Giants or the Packers however care less about positional needs and really just want the best player, almost regardless of positions. Brett Favre was still in his prime when the Pack drafted Rogers. The Giants might have had the best pass rushers in football, yet they still drafted Kiwanuka and JPP, in separate drafts. So, what you've said is too much of an oversimplification, and isn't really describing the different draft mentalities around the league.

Cyrus Kouandjio ceiling level is pretty hight for a LT and could be franchise LT within couple of season.
