Greg Hardy advance

So let me get this straight, all we did was pay him earlier for him to participate? Who cares then he's happy he gets his money sooner and this shows we can pull some strings to make our guys happy(well when we aren't bad mouthing arguably the best panther in team history rift before we cut him). And it doesn't effect the cap so this is just good news for both sides imo. I would love to reach a long term deal with hardy just not one that screws us. I wouldn't give him cj money but I would give him pretty close that. People always talk about being able to sign our young superstars and that's why we make tuff cuts. Well people seem to forget it's not just cam and Luke. Greg is right there with them an we need to keep him.

If Hardy balls out this year, CJ gets cut and Hardy takes on a CJ level contract if he's willing to stay. It's going to suck losing Big Money (if it happens), but there's too much cap savings there to pay both of them. Give me the younger guy.

There are options where it comes to CJ, so there also may be a chance he will still be here for a few more years.

I agree that Kraken should be as big a piece as anybody. A long term deal, IMO, is the best thing for this team. Keep the bottom of the roster with low cost FAs and we can afford players like Cam, Luke, CJ, and Kraken.

What is the problem with this?

Bored drama queens gunna be drama queens

I don't see the problem with it either. Weren't the only players to miss OTAs last year injured? Kraken playing for a shot at another whooper of a contract. He gonna be there. He will use every tool available to him to get better.

Don't you have some test to study for? Quite whining about the damm whinerz, and get some studying done. Whinerz, as annoying as they may/can be, are also human. They derserve all the love and respect we can give them. Bazinga.

He has out performed his contract.  He balled out in a contract year.  He deserves to get paid.   Hopefully we can work it out where his cap numbers don't kill us.

Lol Gregory McKarl Hardy...that's amazing.  That sounds like the unassuming Clark Kent to the Kraken's Superman.

If we were going to attempt to trade Hardy then why would we be advancing his salary? WIth no advance, if a trade succeeds at some point later in the off-season then his next team would be responsible for his full contract. But if we're paying him 1.3 now, that money wouldn't be reimbursed to us or credited to our cap if he's traded, right? That 1.3 million would, in essence, be dead money. So, all that is to say that Hardy's either playing this year under the tag or we'll reach a long term deal. A trade now doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Nail on the head.

The take-away message is that the Panthers are not planning on trading Hardy.  This move solidifies that fact.  If we were interested in trading him, we just took a 1.3 million dollar cap hit for nothing.

I appreciate that Gettleman is playing hardball with Hardy.  For too long this front office handed out ridiculous contracts.
