What do you think?

I'll rep you if you post

Alright everyone. I have been trying to find out what people think about my idea of the mask in another thread, but no one is posting anything even though the views are going up slowly. I tried bumping it. I tried a link in my sig. It seems that it is just being ignored really.

It seems though that people may not like the idea as much as I was lead to believe in the beginning, or they are waiting on the season to begin, me to show at a tailgate with some, or whatever. I don't care about the reasons. I hesitantly started this new thread for one reason, and that is to find out what the rest of the fans think. Do you like the mask, or do you not? Do you think it could be improved on, or is it good the way it is? I want some feedback.

For anyone who hasn't checked the original thread, I have been told by two people with education in law that I should not be selling these, and that the NFL would have a pretty strong case against me if I did. For that reason I am just trying to get the idea sold to a company with a license such as Reebok. I don't want to be greedy with it either. I want the Panthers fans to have something that's known of the way the terrible towel and cheese heads are. Your feedback would be good for said company to look at.

So please take a sec to post something in this thread or the other one, whether it be positive or negative.

Thanks,

I've liked the masks since seeing them last January and would consider buying one, but I don't think it will ever take on an iconic following like Green Bay's Cheesehead. It just doesn't have mass appeal: can you really see people of all ages wearing something like this?

That's not to say it shouldn't be made, I just think it should be catered to younger male fans (which is probably the largest demographic anyway).

So yeah, I like it and think it could be profitable.

definitely seems to be more male oriented although one of the few I did sell went to a Sgt. Peppers. a girl. i wish she would have gotten a pic to me like she said she would. And to answer your question, I could see anyone who wears any type of Panther gear wearing one of these.

I like it. It is a good idea.

It doesn't get cold out here (cali) and we watch the games indoors. We want to make a trip out there to NC and if so, I will let you know so you can have a few ready for us.

it isn't always cold here in NC either. That's why I am thinking they should be made in a couple different materials. I think a white one made of thinner material would be great for the early games to help prevent sunburn.

thanks to both of you for your opinions.

well you never know.....I'm pretty sure when the first person decided it would be a good idea to put a piece of cheese on your head when you attend a Packer game.....they were probably told it wouldn't catch on either.

I think it is good enough idea to give it a shot. The only draw back is that (and I think I remember the mask correctly) it covers the mouth.....and that would effect how many beers CRA can pound while wearing it.

General Council of the Panthers said that they are a derivative of the already trademarked logo.

Madhatter's brother in law said the same along with the comment that my advertising them on a Panther's forum doesn't help.

I tried to tell you the same thing that the GC and brother-in-law are telling you, but I tried to tell you last January.

You could be getting into some rough water with this, KK. I would be careful with it.

Also, you most likely can't "trademark" it. A logo is a trademark. An identifying mark is a trademark. A certain color scheme can even be a trademark. A facemask with fangs would not be a trademark, and I would question whether you would even be awarded a patent for it.

The only thing trademarkable about the thing is the fangs, which are taken directly from the logo. With the strict licensing rules that govern NFL merchandise and such, you may not have anything to protect, and the Panthers and NFL may very well have a trademark infringement suit. Of course, they would have to prove that you are using their trademark, i.e. the fangs, as a means to make money.

Also, based on the above, I don't know how you could really get the Panthers to "buy [you] out." If a court would determine that you are making money off of the Panthers logo without a proper licensing agreement, you are the one that would be doing the "buying."

If I were you, I would probably talk to a trademark attorney about this more in depth, as I just took Trademarks in law school.

this thread is not for rubbing your previous comments in my face.

112 views so far, and only this many replies?!?!? is it really that hard to post something?

Something

Nope, wasn't hard at all.......

When I look at it, I don't think "Panthers." It looks more like Halloween ghoul mask or something. I am not big on gimicky things though.

<<<Goes to find my Eagles hat that flaps it's wings when you pull on the string.

Regardless of what I think, I hope it catches on and you make a fortune.

i like the idea. if you can get around the legal issues you may be on to something. you probably will have to redesign it because of the fangs. i personally wouldn't wear one because i'm more of the polo type, but i don't see why it couldn't catch on.
