Who is the hardest hitter on the Panther defense?

Mr. Scot

No, it was Al Wallace.

For what Simms' opinion is worth, is was Jenkins (and TD).

IT WAS a tough play that caused an unusual—and dangerous—season-ending injury. Early in a Sept. 24 loss to Carolina, Tampa Bay QB Chris Simms was hit simultaneously in his stomach (by linebacker Thomas Davis) and back (tackle Kris Jenkins). Simms, 26, kept playing, but after the game doctors discovered he had ruptured his spleen and had lost five pints of blood due to internal bleeding, forcing Simms to have an emergency splenectomy.

"I remember the play," says Simms. "But the [rest of] the game is foggy."

I could've sworn that was Mike Minter.

That hit occurred in the same game, but...

Carolina Panthers defensive end Al Wallace was fined $7,500 for his slam of Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Chris Simms last Sunday.

The Bucs, though they have no proof, believe that hit -- deemed unnecessary roughness -- might have been part of the reason Simms injured his spleen.

Panther's Wallace Fined $7,500 for Hit on Simms

Per the story, the league didn't assign blame to Wallace for the injury, acknowledging that Simms had already appeared injured earlier in the game.  My own take is that Davis and Jenkins hurt him, but he got back in the game after that.  As I recall, he never returned after the later hit from Wallace.  That's where I believe the ruptured spleen happened.

Mind you, no one can know for sure.

You could argue that Mike Minter took out one of our own, namely Rocket Ismail.

People were raving about Ismail in camp, until this rookie safety just blasted him on a route across the middle.

Ismail was never quite the same after that.  he was still effective, but not like he had been.

I don't really blame Minter for that though.  If that was gonna happen, it was gonna happen.  He just happened to be the guy.

Easy one to make.

I'd say Wallace still has the distinction of best nickname in Panther history ("the Principal") though I'm sure most these days would give that spot to "The Kraken"

It was Jenkins and Davis.

Al Wallace broke McNabb's rib in the Championship game.

Actually, that was Greg Favors.

Mike Rucker was the guy who got the sack, but Favors pounced on him while he was down (link).

(had to look up his name but I remembered it being a linebacker that we didn't keep the next year)

I also remember the 'coup de grace' hit by Jarrod Cooper that took him out of the game for good.

Eagle fans were screaming the hit by Favors was dirty.  Objectively speaking, they may have had a point.

This is one of those things that always gets me when it comes to Minter. People praised the smarts, and skills of a near Pro Bowl player. Folks love him to death. But yet very few bring up his hitting ability. His only real flaw was tackling. He was a willing and able participator, but was down right baffling regarding his own ability.

That said. He could hit. Right from the get go as you so aptly pointed out. And sparked my response, I might add. I just thought/think too many people underestimate that aspect of his game. I have no reason why, but believe it to be a given that he could hit, which made it more difficult for him to amaze us.

There's a plethora of plays running through my mind as I write this. Minter snot knocking someone. Giants TE in playoff game. Oh, that hit in the Cowboys game that saved a 1st and goal.

Minter=underrated hitter.
