Jon Gruden: Johnny Manziel will be a star (plus other qb prospect talk)

I don't remember thinking that Gruden disliked Cam per se, but the infamous name a play at Auburn question raised some issues that I recall Gruden saying he wasn't sure Cam's football acumen would translate to the NFL well.

That question gets raised - legitimately, if we're being objective - about most college QBs that don't run a pro-style offense these days.

People take that as an intelligence question.  It really isn't.  It's an experience question.

Quarterbacks who haven't run that type of offense before will have a harder transition because they have to learn something new.  Add in that it's more difficult to predict how well they'll do something when you have nothing to draw on because they've never done it.

That said, scouts, coaches and GMs know that experience in a pro style system (or lack of it) isn't a "be all / end all' type of thing.  It's just one of many factors in the evaluation.  And there are plenty of examples of 'pro-ready' quarterbacks (Clausen, for example) not transitioning well to the NFL while others (like Newton) do just fine.

Unknown.

His players hated him so much they went to the front office, basically threatened mutiny and got him fired.

I like to remind people of that story anytime we get someone talking about how great it would be if we got Gruden as a head coach.

(a discussion that I hope is off the table for the foreseeable future).

I heard that he fired the team chaplain so they wouldn't do post-game prayers and stuff like that.

Possible, but i don't recall offhand hearing that story about Gruden.

I've heard similar sentiments about George Seifert in his Panthers tenure though.

Jon Gruden loves everybody and everything. His commentary on MNF is one big love fest. He said Cam kept him up at night and gave him nightmares when he coached, during the Pats game. Ummmmmmm yea, he says ish just to say it.

Did he say "did give him nightmares" or "would give him nightmares"?

The first statement would be pretty out there since Gruden was fired before Cam made it to the NFL.

With all the love fest around Manziel, Car, and Bortles, who are all late comers as legitimate prospect, if 3 years from now Bridgewater is the only QB standing(like Cam is) that would be interesting. And, I kind of know that's gonna be the case.

If you know that's going to happen, you should

Go to Vegas and make a lot of money.

I honestly don't know how to feel about Manziel.  He makes things happen and is elusive but so was Flutie.

He is similar in size to Brees but I don't see the accuracy that Brees has.  They only thing I will say about him if he runs..... SEE RGIII

The boy is gonna get lit up if he tries to run in the NFL like he did in College.

He said ''did'', sometimes I think he doesn't even understand what he's saying
