Jon Gruden: Johnny Manziel will be a star (plus other qb prospect talk)

Jon wants to give every player, not just QB, in this draft a big hug.  When he was coaching, he wanted to give every one of his players a kick in the ass.

What happened to him?  Is his wife giving him a little since he is actually home now?  Did he find himself a little action on the side?  Does he feel better now that he doesn't have to listen to the Glazer's?  Just asking.

Unknown.

His players hated him so much they went to the front office, basically threatened mutiny and got him fired.

I like to remind people of that story anytime we get someone talking about how great it would be if we got Gruden as a head coach.

(a discussion that I hope is off the table for the foreseeable future).

Gruden didn't develop Gannon.

Truth be told, he never developed anybody.

His reputation for being a 'quarterback guru' is based on unreality.

i meant rep for keeping them on a short leash and being basically a complete dickhead to them...

That rep was primarily gained with the guys he was supposedly 'developing'.

Guys like Rich Gannon and Brad Johnson - that someone else already developed for him - tended to be the ones he had more patience with.

Ironically enough, I don't think Gruden was real high on Cam, who is basically superior to every other QB who has ever been on Gruden's QB Camp.

I don't think Gruden showed any real negativity toward him that I recall.  There were some questions that came out as a result of his answer to the complicated playcalling question on the 'QB Camp' program.

In all honesty, Cam legitimately did handle that question poorly, not that it matters much to anything now.  By contrast, Blaine Gabbert did great in that part of the program, but there's no question who became the better pro.

I don't remember thinking that Gruden disliked Cam per se, but the infamous name a play at Auburn question raised some issues that I recall Gruden saying he wasn't sure Cam's football acumen would translate to the NFL well.
