How I think this draft is going to go down.

Recommended Posts

barring Lewan or Ebron falling to us, I'd be fine with taking Latimer or OBJ if they are there.

If not, I'm thinking we might take Shazier.  Davis had a fantastic season, and his body hasn't taken

as much punishment for someone his age because of all the games he's missed.

But he's expensive ..very expensive over the next 2 seasons.

I could see our linebackers set for a long time with Klein, Shazier and Luke.

The Lions' comparison is not a very good one. The reason the Lions have trouble finishing with a consistent record is because they have an inconsistent QB. If they had someone more consistent, they would dominate the NFC north.

But, to that point. Julio jones gets injured and the Falcons go from a potential 12-13 game winner to a 4 game winning team. So yes, receivers help rise you to the top.

If the Lions comparison is not a good one, that makes your Atlanta one downright awful.

Been saying it for a while here, at 28 I prefer a couple different things.

1: BPA outside of RB, QB, MLB, and possibly DT.

2: Trade back a bit and either pick up a 2 and 3, or a 1 next year.

I want a WR or a T at the 28, but if the value is not there, I don't want to reach for "need", I want this team to build for the next 10 years not the next year.

This wouldn't surprise me at all.

Already noted in post #4. Not only just a 'spell check post' but a duplicate too.

I don't see any legit 1st round OT's dropping to 28. Too many teams in need and not enough to go around. The draft is infested with good WR's though and I think we pick one up in the 1st.

Good effort, but I disagree with much of what you said about our first pick. WR will most likely be BPA at our pick and there will be one better than Latimer. Even if a top 15 player falls to us its very possible we would trade back or not take him because we've already got depth at whoever falls. That's just who the hell knows. If we took Latimer in the first I'd be absolutely fuging pissed. Latimer is a late 2nd - early 3rd talent. Not a late 1st like a lot of people think. I would take Benjamin, Cooks, Lee or even Matthews in the first (and obviously Watkins/Evans but they won't fall).

I actually think that the first three rounds won't have a tackle at all. I just don't think the value will be there.

If I had to guess, based on our interest and what we want to do, we will do something like this in the first 3 rounds:

1st: Best Receiver on the board (he will be a guy high on our list anyway, so BPA)

2nd: Telvin Smith OLB or best secondary player available

3rd: CJ Fiedorowicz TE or best pass rusher still on the board

It is important to say that no matter what opinion we have of our GM's tendencies in the draft, they can be filed under "Your guess is as good as mine" drawer.

Last year was his first draft. A miracle happened, A star fell to his lap. (Pun semi intended). Every choice he made it was made in the interest of this team for the long haul. Look at his picks with the exception of the first..

Star

KK

Kugbila

Klein

Barner.

The first two solidified the interior line for at least a decade. Kugbila, unfortunately did not get much playtime due to his injury and is considered a 2014 pick by Gettleman in light of his injury. Klein, being the BPA was a steal and helped the LB corp several times. Again thinking about the future, gettleman made the head scratcher move to pick Barner. "But we have 30,000 RB's! How could he!" Well, One of those RB's is injury prone, and the other is on the wrong side of 30. More than likely they will be dealt with in the coming years. He saw value in this pick and in the long run it will pay dividends.

This year, there's a bit of uncertainty about what position will be picked at 28. Chances are, as much as we want that Tackle or Wide receiver. Another position may be picked. Around 28, there will be a pool of defensive players that could be available. Ealy, Van noy, Shazier, Pryor, Fuller. There's also the possibility that a certain Tight end from UNC may be available. There has been an idea circling my head for the past couple of days as well. That Gettleman may actually value these other positions more than Offensive tackle at 28 since the talent drop off is very far. Yes, we need a Left Tackle, yes, that is a priority. But I believe he is going to give this position competition in a later round.

The 28th pick to some is the most crucial, since it sets the bar and it is the first pick in the first round.

There are three scenarios that I believe will happen.

1. A high rated player, top 15 player falls to us. Every year there is one that seems to fall. We are at the prime spot to have one and draft him.

2. No one falls and we pick the BPA which will more than likely be a defensive player, D line or D back.

3. Take the bull by the horns and draft a Wide Receiver by the name of Cody Latimer.

Yeah. Cody Latimer. He's been shooting up draft boards. He has it. Proehl and Gregory have met with him. I believe he has been worked out twice (Maybe more, don't remember). He's a big body receiver, that is Dauntless going over the middle, is physical, has speed, and very good hands. The attributes you want in a #1 guy. There's been interest in him by other late round picking teams as well, Mainly the 49ers.

I for one will not be upset if he is picked in the first. It is essentially a second round pick. You're only 4 picks away from picking in the second.

Here's a visual on how I believe this draft will unfold if Latimer is the first pick.

In conclusion, I have no insider information, I am merely speculating. Much like most. I have no clue to what may happen so late in the first. Several things could happen that alter the person we pick at 28. Heck for all I know we trade out and move down. The good thing is that most of our questions will be answered in 11 days. :D

First let me just say tl/dr. I'll throw in an abligitory, I don't like LB in the 3rd. We need help there, just not at that price. The kid doesn't really get to start for another few years. 4th or later? I like him.

Oh, not another "Hey here's my draft" thread. But other than the

I say the same thing. If Denver taught us anything this year is that offenses have a ceiling. Calvin Johnson's been running around breaking all kind of records and Detroit can barely finish 8-8. Us on the other hand didn't even have a WR that was capable of 60 catches and we're circled on everyone's calendar. If a team doesn't already have a good defense, Watkins and Evans ain't taking you to the top.

Defenses wins Championships. We just saw that proven out in a big way. But, you'd better have an Offense that can put pressure, and score, on a D. Hellz, once the playoffs start, you are probably playing a pretty good D anyway. Even to get to the SB, you have to play both O, and D. Too much talent at that level to get by with just good D, and good O. You better be great at one of them.

Take it from a lifelong Lions fan. The reason the Lions are not a consistent winner, is the same reason we have not yet become a consistent winner. Great ownership with a lousy sense of who should run it.

Well, the talent, and play-calling have some part in the equation. Personally, I think Mathew has acquitted himself nicely as a pro. The kid has it. He ain't no Cam. But, he good.

As for atl. Hope they are worse than last year.
