Goodell now wants to make the draft 4 days instead of 3

When the players union won't waive the right to sue for injuries that show up 30 years down the line (which I don't think they should do, either) what's he supposed to do? They have to do everything they can from a liability standpoint to protect themselves.

So the expansion of playoff teams is to protect players? The plan to add regular games is also to protect players?

All I'm saying is that everything has a limit. If you keep pushing it, you'll eventually find it. If you want a better example, look at the UFC. It was booming in popularity a few years ago, but too many cards and a watered down talent pool from the number of cards has interest and viewership slipping.

I absolutely agree with you. But he hasn't done it yet and the NFL is smart enough not to do it. Cuban just wishes they would because he's jealous since he doesn't make nearly as much money as NFL owners do off of their teams.

And UFC isn't football, let's be real here. They're not gonna expand the league to 75 teams...

They have zero interest in protecting players. The interest is from a liability standpoint. They would be dropping preseason games to compensate for the added games, thus keeping the liability the same.

NFL PA would never go for that without MAJOR concessions. Starters play very little in the preseason and at a reduced intensity compared to the regular season. Much of the preseason is played by guys who won't be on a final roster. To the starters, eliminating the preseason and converting those 4 games to regular season games would constitute significantly more risk. If they go to a 20 game regular season, I think we'd see quite a few more injuries and careers potentially shortened.

Twenty game regular season is absolutely absurd. I think 18 is pushing it. I was mostly talking about the added game to wildcard weekend. I would take back my stance that Roger Goodell is doing a fine job (not great, but perfectly fine) as commissioner if they enacted a 20 game regular season.

That would probably get the job done. The question being how much would it take?

It would be a 12.5% increase in the number of games. A 12.5% increase in the league's total payroll from last year would be roughly $492 million. Assuming the players would want to be compensated a little more heavily for the extra effort, it's probably gonna run the league about three quarters of a billion dollars by the time it goes into effect.
