Of course they communicated, exactly what was said we will never know. In regards to the reports about a coaching search, I guess that comes down to what you personally believe. Gettleman doesn't strike me as a liar, but again, we were not present so who knows.

I certainly agree that there is way more to being a general manager than most fans know. All I was pointing out in regards to the record was that it was a lot of factors that lead us to 12-4. I'm anxiously awaiting the draft, nothing would make me happier than to land a stud WR and OT, we can only hope at this point.

I guess that depends on ones personal opinion on how much of a leader the GM really needs to be.

You had the GM in Hurney who was an over spender and over valued players in the draft which lead to disastrous results. Then you have Gettleman who is more cautious and not afraid to make tough decisions for the betterment of the entire team. Clearly two different men. I think there is a definite balance needed between the two philosophies they share though obviously.

The public responses from players when Hurney was fired will tell you just about all you need to know about his general approach with personnel.

I don't sense an abnormal amount of ego in Gettleman, he's just been around a lot of years and has the chops to come with it. I like him. The only thing I've really taken issue with him on was the handling and unfortunate PR disaster with Smith, but it's over with and I moved on.

I have no problem with McShay offering his opinion on who we should draft, and I appreciate it just 

as much as the other 50 mockers.

 

But I could care less about his thoughts about us trading up or down.  He is talking about our

first round pick only, while Getty has a 7 round plan in place.  And I'm very confident Getty will

not trade up in this draft.

There was nothing Hurneyesque about the Falcons getting Jones. The Redskins getting Griffin.

Sure they could have obtained a plethora of what would have more than likely been average trash, but they elected to push for something great instead.

I understood the Redskins making the move for RG3.  If you don't have a franchise QB and you have the opportunity to go get one, you almost have to do it.  But the Falcons making that move for Julio?  Sorry, even a great WR doesn't make a big enough impact on the field to justify that kind of trade.  I'm not even sure if Megatron would justify that kind of trade.

I think we need at least 3 starting players out of this draft and giving up a 3rd would jeopardize those chances. We need a starting DB, OL and WR. We realistically need two linemen.

Unless the guy we are moving up for is a bonafid super star, we need every pick we have.

This is the truth.

 

However I think there's a chasm between what scouts know about prospects and what fans think they know about prospects.  To get to the point...there might be a prospect that the FO can be high on but we aren't.  It sort of makes the term "superstar" more subjective.

I'm saying how would you feel about moving up 7-8 slots. Giving up a couple mid-late round picks isn't going to jeopardize our future if we get our guy and he turns out as expected. Just trying to weigh all options and get some discussion going.

 

I personally don't like it because you aren't sure the person your moving up for will be successful. We did that for Otah, Everett, and Armanti. Not saying it won't work this time but unless your sure he is that great I dont see a reason to move up.

Now the only reason I would move up is if some elite OT or WR drops to 20 then you might have to do it but if they were falling that much were they elite in the first place?
