Of all the Wide receiver prospects.

Recommended Posts

Which are the prospects with the best hands? Grabbing a prospect with great hands seems to be what we need. Besides speed and Catch radius. Having a sure handed wide out is essential. What is the consensus as far as which wide receivers catch everything thrown at them?

From what I have been reading here and there.

Sammy Watkins

Mike Evans

Brandin Cooks

Davante Adams

Jarvis Landry

Cody Latimer

Jordan Matthews

Allen Robinson

Devin Street

(Suggest more if you could please.)

Here's some drop percentages.

Martavis Bryant Clemson 12.50%
Marquise Lee Southern California 12.31%
L'Damian Washington Missouri 12.07%
Donte Moncrief Ole Miss 11.11%
Kelvin Benjamin Florida State 9.68%
Paul Richardson Colorado 8.89%
Jalen Saunders Oklahoma 7.94%
Jordan Matthews Vanderbilt 7.69%
Odell Beckham Jr. LSU 6.45%
Allen Robinson Penn State 5.43%
Brandin Cooks Oregon State 4.69%
Sammy Watkins Clemson 4.49%
Mike Evans Texas A&M 4.29%
Jarvis Landry LSU 2.50%

The first two are out of the question, we all know they will not fall to us and we aren't going to trade up either.

The rest? I believe we have a legitimate shot at drafting.  Respectively in the first and second round.

What other prospects have sure hands in this draft that can be selected in later rounds?

Devin Street

Devin Street is one of the best pass-catchers in the draft. He has absolutely fantastic hands and an uncanny ability to spear the ball at its' highest point. Instead of trying to catch with his chest, he prefers to use his strong hands to tear the ball out of the air, or out of cornerbacks' hands. He has great timing and great coordination, which allows him to win jump balls regularly and adjust to mis-throws.

I think it is highly unlikely that Cooks or Odell Beckham are available when we pick at 28. If any of the top WRs fall, I have a feeling the Saints will scoop them up one pick ahead of us.

So before we draft 4 WRs and 4 tackles would have left the board? That's insane. I think we'll have the choice among some good WRs.

I disagree that we need guys with good hands. We've got Avant and Cotchery for that. We need big play ability with speed or size. Benjamin, Lee or Cooks are my favorites for our pick at 28.

Yeah, Avant and Cotchery aren't going to be here for the long term. Might as well pick up guys with hands that grow with Cam.

Yup there are tons of WR needy teams ahead of us and plenty of talent at the position to be taken by them. There will be some good receivers but the top 4 will likely be off the board at 28.

It will likely depend on whether there is a run on them before we pick.  Each year it seems that there is a run on some position in the draft and teams are fearful that their guy won't be there in the second and reach for him in the first. Wide receiver could easily be that position this year.

    • He is also a player that has that "lock room cancer" tag.  We don't see much of the full picture, but I try to stay far away from that type of player. He is historically not good at losing, and we tend to do that a good bit. Not a good fit in my opinion.  I respect the skill, though.
    • I honestly can't think of a teams first line basically telling the coach to fug off like last night's line of Aho, Jarvis and Svechnikov did to Rod.
    • Do you even know what the term "below average" means? Because I'm genuinely not sure if you do. There are 32 QB's in the league, which means to be playing "above average" he'd have to be the 15th best QB at the league, and even then, that's in essence the "average NFL QB" still. Even going by these rankings, which have him 20th, that by itself is the definition of "below average", and that's before you consider there are multiple QB's ranked below him in this list that I'd 100% trade him for in a heartbeat. Again, no matter what you think the eye test tells you, he's made 28 starts and has a grand total of FOUR games over 247 yards.  Drake Maye has made 10 starts, all with a significantly worse group of pass catchers than Bryce has had, and he already has 3 games over that number himself. I don't need to see or know anything else beyond that to determine he is a below average QB in this league so far and I don't know how anyone can honestly argue against that.  If he was a Lamar Jackson type putting up 75+ yards rushing on a consistent basis, then you can look at those passing yards differently, but that's not the case here. Could he still improve and get to average or better?  Of course. But you're trying to extrapolate a few throws/drives/moments from a handful of games and trying to say that makes him even an average, if not above average, QB in this league.  Which is just nonsense when the players you're comparing him to have played at that level for full seasons or their entire careers.
