Bill Voth says no tackle in the first

I'd take James over Moses as well.

I simply do not see the appeal people have, other than the likelihood that we need an OT and he was next up on walterfootball's rankings list.

The guy looks immensely uncomfortable playing OT.

Just comparing him the the supposed second rounders in Fleming, James, Turner, Mewhort, etc., I just don't see what makes Moses soo much better to warrant our 28th if they're viewing him as a RT.

I like what Voth is saying there in general, but the idea that you're either good enough to play LT or you get pushed to RT is a way outdated thought.  Honestly, I believe in 'fit' and where a player is comfortable, and then whether that player's good enough to start.

Guys like Moses or Bell, who have experience on both sides, are not necessarily the way everyone is.  And I would hesitate to value LT greater than RT, to be totally honest.

Does having a mobile QB make a difference on that topic, in your mind?

What's your logic?

(not arguing with ya; just looking for info)

I'm just looking at who you can put on the line and who could be cemented there for 8+ years.

Right now we only have that with Kalil at center.  Plus, I'm not sure it's a given Bitonio isn't capable of playing LT in the NFL just because of a few inches and pounds.  He's just seems to be the OL I'm gravitating towards.

I just have a weird feeling we're going to be all over Bitonio if the likes of Fuller, Ebron, OBJ, Cooks, and Latimer are off the board.

Here's a good breakdown per ESPN:

The extremely durable Bitonio started 33 of 51 games in his four-year career with no sign of injury issues along the way. Surprised many at the scouting combine with his athleticism, clocking a 4.97-second 40-yard dash time, which was fourth fastest among linemen and finished second among linemen in vertical jump and broad jump. Prototypical finisher when blocking, whether it's in the run game or pass protection. One of those players who plays through the echo of the whistle and does everything he can to set a tone. Solid in pass protection because of quick feet and good fundamentals. Strong as a run-blocker, particularly in zone schemes.

Would you take him over Moses or Kouandijo?

I may sound crazy but I would and think the FO would as well.

He kept both Barr and Lawrence in check this season and we've met with him twice (that we know of)

you could argue it either way, but it didn't really enter into my mind when saying it.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't have a good LT - and the argument I'm about to put out might be a little extreme - but having a killer LT and nothing around it doesn't make a good line.  I'd rather have 5 good players than one great one there, where you have to work as a team and individual excellence doesn't help you as much.

Ideally you'd have two great tackles and a great center, and you'd find a way around the rest,  But if we had Bell at LT for a year and a better RT, I could see a value in that.

I'd agree that Kouandijo isn't a guy I'd expect to be in the NFL for 8+ years. Red flags, not just medical.

I agree that the inches and pounds don't make you a great player.  They're tiebreakers, at best.  But, the difference in value between those inches and pounds can be the difference in draft slotting.

Put simply, I do think Bitonio can be a really good starter in the league, but while some teams put too much stock on measurables, they're there for a reason, too.  It doesn't make him a bad player - far from - but I don't see him at 28.
