Who is the most important player on the panthers defense?

Smith vs Lucas

Without Star as a rookie, Kuechly led the NFL in tackles and won the Defensive Rookie of the Year award.  With Star, Kuechly won the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award in his second season.

My point is that with or without Star, Kuechly is an elite NFL MLB and he's the QB of our defense.  Star is damn good, but there's probably 10+ guys in the league who could fill his role on our team.  At most there's maybe 2 or 3 who could fill Kuechly's.  He was the DPOY for a reason.

In the 4-3 it's always your DT's and the 3-4 always your NT. Therefore it's 60-40 between Star and whomever is next to him since they give our LBs the ability to move through traffic and make a play.

The question was not who is the BEST player it's who is the most IMPORTANT.

When we're on defense, who do you look toward to make a play on the QB on 4th & 5, ball on your 5 yard line with 5s left on the clock leading by 4 points? Be honest and that should answer your question.

Sounds like Star, he made a similar play in the Saints game at home which allowed us to get the ball back for that game winning drive, it was on the RB tho.

The fact that this argument comes down IMO, to two guys with only one and two years experience respectively, is awesome. Luke was the DPOY in his 2nd freaking season. Star could've been the Defensive ROY, and is only going to get better.

As for now, for me it's Luke. But for Star, dominating at a position many rookies struggle with and now coming into his 2nd season...look out.
