Breaking Down the Shrewed moves that Built the Carolina Panthers
rayzor replied to MHS831's topic in Carolina Panthers
Why do y'all do this kind of thing? You guys get off on misery? Fuggin sickos. -
This sounds like Dan and Dave seeing that what we had done resulted in poo. Tepper, Fitt, and Rhule serm like analytics kind of people who would trust that poo over knowing the game and trusting instincts. Analytics absolutely doesn't seem like something Dan would rely on to the degree that the panthers under fitt tried to and failed with. Just because Dan was here doesn't mean that all decisions and methods of making decisions the team made he was in board with. This is what happens when you see a need to change course and then work to correct it.

It shouldn't make me so fuggin sad.

Not a lot of in depth conversation but still a good general idea with some perspective I hadn't heard before from him. 1) what he had been doing to prepare himself to be a head coach over the years 2) Young's focus on off-season is looking at lots of tape from last year and doing a lot of self eval of all scenarios and learning verbiage for new system 3) idea of how to help OL will be to see what they do well and what coaching/teaching they respond to best so they can play fast and aggressive but are comfortable and confident in themselves. Last year was not in their comfort zone. Style won't be as simple to define as "power run scheme". It will be what they can do and teach well. 4) that led to discussion about how coach K adapted style of ball to the crew he had each year. Canales said it will kind of be like that, but there has to be a, for lack of a better word, platform to establish to start off with that they build off and become themselves. Then they get into Superbowl predictions but I didn't watch that.

Pretty reasonable stuff. Personnel is a mess, more on offense than defense and the whole league pretty much knows this. We aren't a player or two from being good. We're probably a third of the way to being a good team. Tagging Burns would be a very costly mistake. No guarantee you'd be able to trade him. The stuff on Icky was interesting, that it's mainly what's going on between being his ears that is the problem. He lost confidence and as bad as macAdoo was, he worked with Icky better than Reich and Brown. Maybe Canales can get through to him. Speaking of Canales, he won't be getting us Mike Evans, but we can still and should get 3 more WRs and a TE via the draft and FA. The talent will be there and can be found anywhere, we just have to spot it correctly and use it right. Mentioned Greg Olsen saying "I hope the panthers don't think they are just a player away" and do something stupid like paying for a big time FA or trading to get someone. Fill the holes and give this team a solid foundation to build on.

some threads just have a special unintentional kind of dumb attached to them. these are the outliers. these are the exceptions to the rules.
-
i probably will eventually, but there's just too much fun to be had with this thread.
-
i'll just say i hope he's right.

Lol this is so dumb

Which country?

looks like the kind of receiver we'd really be going for. he's got that smitty fight in him and on most of his catches there's no one around him. unguardable? looks like it. he gets a lot of separation.

this guy is seriously fun for me to watch. day 3 would be a steal imo.

ok, this thread has run its course.

Scout team would have been busy all year already. We're only a couple months away from the next draft. I'd say they would need a full year of college ball to get a solid idea of what the field looks like. If you're starting your evaluations now, you're way behind. -
Only trade for picks, please. Not known unreliable players for known unreliable players. Just once I'd like to come out on the winning side of a trade

if he's not under contract here there's no reason to try and keep him around unless you just need another body at WR. both TMJ and chark are completely expendable at this point and this coaching staff and even the front office has really invested nothing in them. it shouldn't be difficult to at least duplicate their production with joes you pick up off the street or late in the draft or even as a udfa. we know these two guys and i think it's enough to see that they aren't really worth the bother at this point. look elsewhere.

agreed. with us you're hoping that the owner doesn't continue being a dumbass. in washington you're hoping the new owners don't become dumbasses. washington did seem like a much better situation than here, but still there's a lot of unknowns there. the snyder stench may take a few years to air out. quinn pick as HC seems like a panic pick. and then adding in kingsbury seems like an odd choice. i think they might have been trying the genius strategy we used last year in trying to get as many diverse mentalities in as possible. bottom dweller franchises tend to stay that way for a while for a reason. every once in a while one breaks out. i'm just hoping that our blind squirrel making decisions this year falls on an acorn.

i think people just like the idea of him as HC. he's not eager, that's for sure. that's a red flag. he's looking for the most ideal situation and i just don't think he's ever going to find it.
