Did Panthers sign Stephon Gilmore too?
rayzor replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Ehhh...silence is just silence. I wouldn't put too much into it one way or the other. I'm sure he wouldn't mind coming back home to possibly finish out his career. I'm sure he's also talking to Clowney, to see what he saw here and some other older guys about what they see with this new staff. Morgan is probably reaching out as well. Biggest thing is the money will have to be enough to justify it. We've got a little left. I'm sure we could scrape enough together. Also, I'm not really seeing much in the way of suitors. I'm sure there are talks with other teams, but I think we're making the biggest push. -
So am I. That said I don't think we're going to have an issue keeping Brown. And.....we wouldn't be drafting him in round 1 either.
-
Yeah, they have the tiniest of windows here. And they're still the jets. Things dont go well for them.
-
I can't imagine him wanting to take it easy with his family there either. Could mean he's going to ball out to impress them all. Home town means you play with a bit more pride and purpose.
-
I think one thing I really like about Sweat is he gives us an option if things don't work out with keeping Brown.

Ok, the more I think about this one the more I like it. I like what it adds to the defense. Make that defensive front even more dominant and a good corner who can hang with any WR in this draft. We also get a center prospect with some upside, we get a good versatile RB (there were about 4 good choices there) and we get a reliable receiver, a big play receiver, and a do it all receiver.

I think so. I think the biggest thing for me is just having the most powerful DL in the league. If we go 3 wide, we've got the greatest most exhausting rotation in the league. If we get those 4 on the line together then good luck to any OL trying to stop or contain them. And then adding Jonah Ellis is just another facet to it all. If you win in the trenches, then do everything you can to give you the most strength there. I'm a fan of the idea that you not only make your OL and DL the most powerful in the league, but then every year you add to it or at least try to refresh it. One we've got both set, then use the draft as a way to keep it fresh. I don't think we've got a dominant OL yet, but the interior is getting there. My only complaint with that draft up there is I didn't address center.

Panthers agree to terms with linebacker Tae Davis

Improved OL should help the run game, but I agree with you and @Bear Handsabout still needing help with ball carriers and pass catchers. Those two and center are the only big areas I see we need to address. Other areas can be strengthened, but those three have to be fit in the draft. 1RB, 2 WRs, and a pass catching TE.

I think this is what got me thinking about it. When you have the worst record in football, you have problems on all fronts. The obvious first step in correcting that is changing out coaching staff. Defense was far from perfect, but it was also far from the biggest issue. I think we made corrections there where needed. Then comes the personnel. It's not just improvements in talent that is needed, but you want a fresh start on the identity. You keep too much of the losing team, you risk keeping the same losing mind may have contributed to it. You need major upheaval and turnover. I still remember not having a great team when hurney was around when they bragged about keeping 20 of 22 starters or whatever it was. I think I was just surprised seeing just how drastic and massive it was in one snapshot. I've been watching it all happen, but spread out over a couple weeks it didn't strike me how big it really was.
-
I guess part of this is also does the coaching staff have more to work with? Considering the coaching staff had a hand in who we got, Canales got his OL and an upgraded WR and Evero got some of his guys. I think they might feel like it's a better fit for what they have in mind. I'm sure they would have liked to keep Luvu and he's really the only one I wish we'd been able to keep, but for the most part I think they are getting who they want.

Not asking to argue, just curious about opinions. How is it worse?
-
Nah, I thought of a few other options, but I wanted it to be a case of "forced to choose, would you say it was better or worse"? I know there are some other things to take into consideration, but just a snapshot of the roster last year and looking strictly at who we lost, kept, and obtained what does your gut say?
-
Just looking at this full list (that you'll probably have to click to see) if the season started next week would we be better off than last year? Yes, intentionally asking pre-draft choices and not taking into consideration coaching changes. Is this team 'as is' better than it was? Also, where do we still need to improve? -10 points for the lazy answer of QB

Maybe it's just me, but I find threads the bot starts pretty entertaining. The (over)reactions I see make it completely worth the effort of opening and reading them.

The joy I get out of it is that their talking to the pats was so much more embarrassing than either loss we had in the Superbowl... especially a worse loss to the pats. We would have won we're we not cheated (both times).they lost because they had an epic choke.

That's the sense I'm getting. -
i don't like our chances when we gamble with poo like that. as seriously as we have taken getting the interior OL right this year, you'd think we would take center more seriously. i have to imagine that we will be addressing it in the draft unless there's some OC FA gem they are waiting to hear about. Could be we will try to draft one and if not then we'll look into some other FA options.
-
thanks for doing all that. I would like for us to draft a center. either one that can start early (mainly because corbett is just an unknown commodity there and he's had some injury issues) or one that can sit behind and learn and then take over. preferably the former. i agree taking a couple WRs and a CB are things that we have to do. Also picking up some ILB help is a bog thing to be looking at as well and there are some good options there. and yes, TE...we need some big time help there. there's a good few available in this draft that would be an upgrade for us. jared wiley would be great but there are a few that we would really benefit from drafting.

contending for the division isn't that outrageous when you consider just how bad the division typically is. we've had teams win it with just 7 wins. bar isn't exactly all that high.
-
that's kind of where my head is at now...the idea of Sweat on there with Robinson and Brown is just too awesome an idea. and then you've got Clowney coming off the edge...yow! i don't care who you put on the other side, damage would be done. OLs won't be able to deal with a front 3 like that.
