It won't take 7 or even 5 years to find out what Rhule is capable of. I think most here already know. Rhule has had no sense of urgency because he had that 7 year cushion. If that cushion is taken away, survival depends on being able to acknowledge that your plan isn't working, find a fix, and adapt, putting your fix in place. Good minds can pull this off. Narrow minds can't, neither can dummies. There's a slim chance that Rhule has a good mind in there somewhere, but more likely he's one of the other two. Adapting, should he try it, might look like this:

Rams were in the Superbowl just a couple years ago and were still relevant. It's not like they were starting from scratch. Plus, they had solid coaching already in place, so they weren't exactly waiting for their coaches to learn that you can't lick your elbows. Not really the same situation. Would take a lot more for us to get there. And, thanks to the genius trades from last year, we don't have nearly the capital we'd need to make it happen....at least not without really damaging the team elsewhere.

Breer: Panthers "between a rock and a hard place" at quarterback

If that's the plan, it's pretty stinking risky and it's got "settling for a lesser commodity" written all over it. -

this year’s OL free-agent class boasts some major talent

They should be top priority but we'll be stuck with scraps. We definitely won't be first or second choice for most and an act of desperation for those who aren't the top FAs. -
Riot: Panthers to take a major swing at QB?

"what Stewart thinks of Garoppolo now".... I hope it is based on reality and not some glorified opinion of what he could have been. -
Was Rhule forced by Tepper to hire experienced coaches?
rayzor replied to mc52beast's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think one of the unforeseen benefits of having a more extensive history in the NFL as opposed to coming in pretty much off the street (which is essentially what Rhule did) is having a network. Rhule had none, which is why he went with what he was familiar with....coaches and players from colleges he had coached himself. And also why he went for Darnold. How many teams had Rhule interviewed before? Well 2018 there was the colts. Next year the Jets, then us the following to year. Thats also about the limit of his familiarity with teams and players in the pros. Yeah, sure there was that season where he was the ass line coach an eternity ago. But his limited experience and familiarity with players in the league brought him back to really the only QB in the NFL he didn't coach that he had any familiarity with, Sam Darnold. The smaller your circle, the smaller your world. Small world translates to limited ability to compete in a bigger world. -
Henning was probably the best OC we ever had, which isn't saying much but it's true. Chud night have had the best offensive mind, but his situational awareness and situational play calling was pretty poor. He had no idea who was on the field and didn't care when he sent down play calls. He didn't adapt his game plan to match the situations very well. That said, he was loads better than most others we had, especially those who came after him. Norve should have been better, but I think Rivera handicapped him. Whatever it was, Norv was a letdown. I expected a lot more from him, but his time didn't seem to be any better than the worst and most predictable of Shula. I will say, I'm not all that excited about McAdoo. His offense in new York was really predictable and lacked much dimensionally. He's got experience, but I expect more of the same we've had going back over a half decade now. One dimensional, predictable offense while lacking a consistently good QB. And no, Cam doesn't count as a consistently good QB his last few years here. He was hurt and played hurt too much after being run into the ground by Rivera and allowed to be a punching bag for defenses by the jackass refs of the league.

Yeah, I kind of think forcing him to stick with Darnold instead of letting him bounce around with a new QB every year is the best way to go for the future. You thought he was something special, roll with him. He's blown it on how many QBs so far....do we really want to trust him with anymore? What, in his track record, makes anyone think he'll get it right this time? -

Whatever it takes, as long as it's happening. Wouldn't surprise me. The question has to asked, just like it was asked about Rivera. If the coach needs to be told how to coach, what's the point of keeping the coach? Just go ahead and get someone who can do the job without being told what to do and how to do it. -
That something else makes sense now. Rhule is a handicap.

Yeah not exactly a step forward there. Or sideways.

Trade Down or Trade Away Player(s)
rayzor replied to DaveThePanther2008's topic in Carolina Panthers
Probably. We'll have coach/rich people worshippers defending the status quo calling it consistency and then those who want the team to be better and make better choices and have better coaches/players unhappy with yet another losing season and tired of the ineffectiveness of this poorly run franchise. People talk about Rhule getting fired next year....but I'm not buying it. Tepper is too stubborn and Rhule is too good a conman. -
Draft day scenario - Could trading Burns be an option?
rayzor replied to SmokinwithWilly's topic in Carolina Panthers
Wealthy.... Yeah, but what does that have to do with it? Smarter? Definitely debatable. I mean they should be as far as football is concerned, but overall? Who knows? But, like I've said before....I don't have to be a truck driver to know when a truck driver is bad at his job. I don't have to be a plumber or a surgeon or a lawyer to know when they are bad at their jobs. And I don't have to be a coach to know when they are bad at their jobs. -
Coaching consistency is overrated if you don't have a coach that can get you a ring. Rhule can't do it. He's not the right guy for the job. Proof is in the results. Results are all that matter. How much friggin time does it take? Because if you're thinking it takes more than 2 years to build a winner, you're doing it wrong.

Name something specific that would get you pumped for this season
rayzor replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Unless they hired Flores, firing Rhule this off-season wouldn't excite me much because who would we hire? I mean are there any good choices? We missed the opportunity for most. There are no good vet FA WBs this year and the idea of trading for one AGAIN makes me want to puke. No great QB options in the draft. I don't know....there just isn't much of anything we could do because Rhule is still here and has control. Him losing control of personnel decisions and being told to keep his ignorant hands off the offense and defense would help, but at point why not just fire the guy? I just have no enthusiasm about this team as long as Rhule is at the helm. He's the captain of this ship and we're heading for Niagra Falls. -

By the time we're actually competitive he's going to be contemplating retirement. Just an observation and I agree with what you're saying, but I might disagree when it comes to RBs. -

That's kind of complicated. Remember who it is making these decisions here. -
How far would the Stafford led Panthers have gone?
rayzor replied to Sean Payton's Vicodin's topic in Carolina Panthers
No, we have, or at least used to have when we had somewhat competent coaching, have an occasional playoff run. I think that era is over. Rivera brought it (eventually) and Rhule is doing his damn best to keep that era around.
