it has been less and less of an issue over the years. even when we drafted Cam many teams were spending more than half of their snaps from the shotgun or pistol and since then that has become much more commonplace. @Jon Snow is right, though, that it will limit a bit what the offense can do. i just don't think that it will be enough. good OCs will make it work around any limitations. all that said...i think that young will be a fun QB to watch on someone else's team. he'll be good, but i wouldn't want to bank on him staying healthy all season every season or having a long career. dude makes me nervous. i'm not worried about batted balls from him. i'm worried about him getting squashed and mangled.

thanks for giving me a reason to check into you.

would you be opposed to moving back up for Bijan Robinson?

Yeah there are going to be some good options later. -

Are you fine with poor TE play or limited WR play? If we're going to invest in a QB and take it seriously, we're going to have to make pass catchers a priority. I'd like to do better than Chuba, but I'd like even more to give our new QB better targets -

Priority 1) QB Priority 2 and 3) pass catchers (especially TE) Priority 3 and 4) CB and pass rusher -
Carr is a 5-10 year guy. It just doesn't make sense to draft who you hope is a franchise guy this year and sign Carr.
-
i'm not nuts about that idea, tbh. i'd rather use day 1 and 2 picks for weapons on offense if we are getting carr.
-
I'm fine either way. i see pros and cons to all of it, but ultimately i trust the coaches. feels weird.

i'm cool with a few different options: in no real order of preference... sign carr and give him offensive weapons through the draft on days 1 and 2. cap hit will suck, but we would be hitting the ground running when the season starts. sit back at 9 and get the best QB available. move ahead of the raiders and get either young or stroud. whoever is the consensus choice for this crew of coaches i'm going to be totally fine with and i have no doubt that they will go hard for whichever QB they want with Tepper's blessing.

i updated the OP using Mr. Scot's earlier post and added Frazier

bring him in. the only issue for him is how much will be be seen as a playcaller here. it doesn't matter how much he actually does, it's all about perception and if he worked for a HC who wasn't an OC at one time and called plays then it would be obvious. i think he'd be a great asset.

Carr is a lot better and more established than any QB we've had since Cam and easily would be among the top 3 the franchise has had.
-
He also had a crappy situation with an idiot HC. The last couple years have been incredibly unstable there and he's had to carry that franchise without any grown up help. McDaniels is a nutcase. Raiders is the perfect team for him.

I'm bracing myself for it.

I'll just say I wouldn't hate it if we picked Carr up. I'm a fan and it would help us focus the draft on getting an upgrade at WR, TE, and/or CB. He'd be more expensive than a rookie, but we'd come out of the gates a lot quicker, we'd have a really good QB with a huge chip in his shoulder, and we wouldn't have to give up any draft capital to get him. Basically I'm good if we draft one of the top 3 or if we pick Carr up.

Saints got no cap space. Same with Tampa. We're a much better situation.

How will this coaching team effect free-agency?
rayzor replied to rayzor's topic in Carolina Panthers
I seriously doubt that would be the result with the Evero/Capers duo. I have more faith in these two than I have had with any defensive coaching staff we've had. -

I'm starting to think the cap is a myth. -

They fit the scheme to the players they have, not the other way around. We'd only be switching to a 3-4 if we have the personnel for it and even then it would only be a base, but adaptive to situations. Basically, all the stress about Evero and Capers switching to a 3-4 is needless. But I get what you're saying, what we do could effect who would be interested, but I think who we have on staff would be a much bigger factor. Imo, we'll just be bringing in talent and fitting what we want to do to the talent that is here. -
I'm just looking at this crew that we've gotten so far (and we're only about half way done) and we've cast a really wide net drawing old experienced guys mixed in with fresh up and coming coaches and all of them from a fairly wide range of teams. I'm just wondering how many FA guys are going to be looking at what is going on here here and thinking they want to be a part of it working with a coach or two that they love or look up to?

From Athletic J Person on Caldwell connections and OC

basically if you have to micromanage, you've hired the wrong people. if you want to micromanage, then why bother hiring anyone at all? instead just get therapy. it's going to be cheaper. -

hire/promote the best people possible so you have to do as little as possible to succeed. it's not laziness, it's realizing that there's better people at their job than you could do their job and you put them in a position to do their job and you let them do their job. All you have to do is set expectations and monitor the results. -
true. the best WRs show up regardless of who is throwing the ball.
