  1. and the team would still suck. but at least we'd have a shiny player to get excited about.
  2. the team isn't bad because it lacks elite players. this team is bad because it lacks even good players. we have to spend to get good players in here. once we've got a good base, then we can start talking about elite players. this year isn't about making us a playoff team. this year is about getting the team built the right way and i really don't think throwing everything we've got at one player is going to fix us. even olson said/warned about this... we aren't one player away, so don't fall into this trap that if we just get this one player then we'll be ok. we won't be. i know you probably like shiny expensive objects and have no problem buying them. but when you are working from a deficit, you've got to be a lot smarter with your money and some times that means not buying the shiny nice things so you get get more of the necessities you need to get by.
  3. true, but if the others see that this works at all they are probably going to jump on this. we could see more than wendy's doing it.
  4. when there is a limited supply of money and a lot of needs, you need to act like there is a limited amount of money and a lot of needs.
  5. it's because we know the reality of the situation. we aren't one or two players away from being really competitive. if we blow our load on one elite player, that's going to hurt our chances of getting more good players to fill in the ranks. you go all in for one and it makes you really top heavy. top heavy things fall/fail easier.
  6. could be, but i really do think that if someone makes him the highest paid WR will find that they will be stuck with having the highest paid WR for a while. i don't see top WRs getting more expensive after this year for a while. the quantity of quality WRs coming into the league this year is going to make really good WRs that much less rare which will drop the average and top prices down. supply is going up. prices are going to be going down.
  7. the thing is, with this class of WRs this year, it's going to cause the $$ to come down for WRs. we might have hit a cap ceiling for WRs for a little while.
  8. i'm all for spending, but i guess it comes down to what he means by "break the bank". if he's wanting around $20mil...maybe. maybe. if he's wanting to be the top paid WR? nah.
  9. i think Jefferson is due $19+ this year and a free agent next year. i'd be up for a trade, but i wouldn't give them more than burns in the trade.
  10. well that's an idea. not a great one at all, but it's an idea. gonna piss people off, but they'll keep going there. wendy's knows that and that's why they won't care about negative feedback.
  11. great call on Allen. we need some thunder. we haven't had that in a long time, either. not since stewart. CMC was great (when healthy) but he wasn't exactly a punishing back that's going to push the pile. that's the kind of guy we need teaming up with chuba. Carson Steel is a punishing RB i'm really liking too and he could be available late like wiley at TE. this is going to be a nice deep draft i think.
  12. yeah, sanders would automatically be the best TE we've had since Olson, but the bar isn't exactly set high there. still i think he's a beast.
  13. same here. at WR... lol there's a list of 20+ i'm interested in and that i would like to get 2-3 of. There are a few TEs i'm interested in. aside from Sanders after our 1st pick most are later round guys. Erick All, Jared Wiley, and Spann-Ford. At RB i'd like a good powerhouse/workhorse back. Estime, Isaiah Davis, and Ray Davis. Frank Gore Jr is just a curiosity to me. Isaac Guerendo is just fun to watch and he plays pissed off. Then it jumps to defense and i'm really interested in Kris Jenkins (would be great to have another one here). I want a couple LBs...Trotter, Edge Cooper, Payton WIlson, Cedric Gray, Tommy Eichenberger. I would love to score 2 of them because i think they fit the classic LB mold we had in our better days. I haven't paid too much attention to the DBs, but I know there are a few CBs who could help us out.
  14. wow already? in my head we were still at least a month away.
  15. i'm not hating this at all. would like to have gotten another OL or two, but i think this would take care of a good few things. one of the things that i keep looking for are hard nose between the tackle RBs and there's a couple of them Carson Steele late looks like a tough mfo and he's a yards after...everything. plus getting an extra first rounder next year doesn't hurt.
  16. i think he was saying he doesn't have to and doesn't need to and for the context of the short list...he was saying that those were the only teams that could possibly pull him back on the field. otherwise it seems he's just not interested in it.
  17. mayfield has as big a personality as cam? the moment that he walks into a room, he becomes the biggest man/personality in the room and that's not at all a knock on him. it's just a fact and a part of what made him so awesome. he is the man that people gravitate to, that people look to, and that people want to follow. it's that charisma and that presence. and when it's clutch time, he's the guy that you want to get involved because you know if anyone can rise, it's him. we all saw it (and in the superbowl it took two teams to bring him down...broncos and zebras). where that becomes a problem is if a team is trying to develop a QB into the leader of his team or at least the offense (which is the goal of every team, making their QB the leader). When you put Cam in there you put any other QB except the best and most established of vets in an impossible situation. they have to compete with cam for the team and it's not like cam tries to take over. his personality and presence does it all naturally. and mayfield was NEVER any of that.
  18. and the most exciting player in the game. not sure there is anyone in the game now who is that exciting or fun to watch. truthfully, you could also say the same thing about smitty. no one tougher in the passing game and no one more fun to watch.
  19. I already had taken Friday off and had plans to go out of town for the weekend. I had that running through my mind....I'm not really sick. It's all in my head. We didn't leave until Friday afternoon and I r tired to be normal but I've just felt like crap. It's getting better now, but I really should have stayed home. Next time I am just going to throw in the towel and stay home. No use in messing around with it.
  20. If we are able to pick up a couple extra picks, thoughts on picking up a QB late? Just for depth (with potential). Not looking at it as being a replacement for Bryce, but someone that would be a decent guy to have and keep around that will know the system and can plug in as needed. Sam Hartman is someone I keep looking at. He's just been solid wherever he's been. Huge game against Clemson. Just seems like the kind of tough and reliable guy you'd want to have hanging around.
  21. I've been playing some with the idea of trading back quite a bit to pick up as many picks as possible. It's not been bad. This is a really nice deep class.
  22. I said before that this is pretty much the Dan Morgan is legit test. What he does with burns says a lot about what to expect going forward. I'm just hoping that the teppers didn't make burns untouchable.
  23. Of course the same guy that offered that also turned down an offer for two firsts for burns and ended up getting fired.
