  1. i think he was saying he doesn't have to and doesn't need to and for the context of the short list...he was saying that those were the only teams that could possibly pull him back on the field. otherwise it seems he's just not interested in it.
  2. mayfield has as big a personality as cam? the moment that he walks into a room, he becomes the biggest man/personality in the room and that's not at all a knock on him. it's just a fact and a part of what made him so awesome. he is the man that people gravitate to, that people look to, and that people want to follow. it's that charisma and that presence. and when it's clutch time, he's the guy that you want to get involved because you know if anyone can rise, it's him. we all saw it (and in the superbowl it took two teams to bring him down...broncos and zebras). where that becomes a problem is if a team is trying to develop a QB into the leader of his team or at least the offense (which is the goal of every team, making their QB the leader). When you put Cam in there you put any other QB except the best and most established of vets in an impossible situation. they have to compete with cam for the team and it's not like cam tries to take over. his personality and presence does it all naturally. and mayfield was NEVER any of that.
  3. and the most exciting player in the game. not sure there is anyone in the game now who is that exciting or fun to watch. truthfully, you could also say the same thing about smitty. no one tougher in the passing game and no one more fun to watch.
  4. I already had taken Friday off and had plans to go out of town for the weekend. I had that running through my mind....I'm not really sick. It's all in my head. We didn't leave until Friday afternoon and I r tired to be normal but I've just felt like crap. It's getting better now, but I really should have stayed home. Next time I am just going to throw in the towel and stay home. No use in messing around with it.
  5. If we are able to pick up a couple extra picks, thoughts on picking up a QB late? Just for depth (with potential). Not looking at it as being a replacement for Bryce, but someone that would be a decent guy to have and keep around that will know the system and can plug in as needed. Sam Hartman is someone I keep looking at. He's just been solid wherever he's been. Huge game against Clemson. Just seems like the kind of tough and reliable guy you'd want to have hanging around.
  6. I've been playing some with the idea of trading back quite a bit to pick up as many picks as possible. It's not been bad. This is a really nice deep class.
  7. I said before that this is pretty much the Dan Morgan is legit test. What he does with burns says a lot about what to expect going forward. I'm just hoping that the teppers didn't make burns untouchable.
  8. Of course the same guy that offered that also turned down an offer for two firsts for burns and ended up getting fired.
  9. But you're paying a guy that is a constant underperformer who played not to get hurt. That's the message we meant to be sending? That no matter what you actually do day to day in the field, we're going to take care of you? That's the culture we want to build?
  10. Yes. That money will be spent. Let it be spent on those who know what it is to be competitive at a high level and let them bring an attitude and work ethic and experience that the young guys can learn from. Let it be spent on players who help build the type of culture you want for this team. Those who will fight and who make those around them better. Blowing it on a guy who has all the tools, but who only brings it on occasion and who obviously just doesn't have that dawg in him would keep us stuck in the same rut of blah we've been on. Paying him would send a horrible message to the other players that we don't expect the best from you. We just want you to show up and we'll pay you for what you might be capable of without expecting you to actually perform at a consistent high and competitive level.
  11. Had annual physical today. Not a bit of it fun of course, but got the shingles vaccine. Really not fun. I mean really....not fun.
  12. check back after next year with a coaching staff that isn't spending more time/energy fighting each other than working with the team. until we see them with a not so dysfunctional coaching staff i think most grades are going to be incomplete at this point.
  13. i really don't want to pay $20+ mil for burns (tag for him is $23), but if we can get two firsts for him i guess it's worth the risk. i just don't see that happening. maybe they can get someone to trade for him for a first this year without having to take the risk of the tag. if someone wants him, they'd probably be willing to jump at the option of only giving up 1 first.
  14. that kind of thing hasn't typically worked out for us anyways. if there's a way someone can break or break down, they'll do it. but yeah, as good as someone might be "if he can stay healthy"...we just can't take that risk. we don't have a cushion thick enough to take those blows. we need to hit on as many picks as possible, especially our lone pick in the first 2 days of the draft.
  15. the way i read it wasn't houston backing out. they and the bears couldn't agree on what the texans would give the bears and just couldn't get thing s worked out. meanwhile the clock was ticking and the panthers offered something else and the bears jumped. we both wanted young. we were willing to pay more for it. that's what it comes down to. stroud was a consolation prize that ended up being better than they or anyone else could have expected. meanwhile young did worse than anyone thought possible, of course his situation was worse than anyone thought possible while the texans situation ended up being better than anyone expected.
  16. we're not going to get an extension done because he wants too much money and he probably thinks he can get it somewhere else...and he wouldn't be wrong. but we'd be wrong in giving him that kind of money because he's just not worth it. if he has he hasn't shown it. he's not the kind of player the team is supposedly looking for now. he's soft. talented, but soft. he'll show up every once in a while, but all it will do is piss you off and make you ask why we don't see that more often. the answer is he just doesn't care and i don't want to bother with him. whether we have a pass rush or not next year doesn't depend on burns. he hasn't been the factor he's hyped up to be. he's just a wannabe spiderman.
  17. i think this right here is major fug up #2 with burns. we missed out on 2 incredible opportunities to trade him that could have really helped us this year under the delusion that he was invaluable to this team.
