  1. i used to want him on the team. then i realized that he's allergic to tackling. congrats, saints. you want him to tackle? honey badger don't care.
  2. Much more disciplined approach but still very active. Crazy.
  3. you fight through all that and you become a fighter by identity. that's a key part in being a good QB, imo. you don't quit and that seems to fit in really well with other people's assessment of him as a relentless competitor. i watched some games of his that things got pretty ugly, including things that he did but what i didn't see was a guy who quit or got too frazzled. he just pushed and always gave his team a chance (which is something i didn't really see in sammy at all).
  4. the hardest thing for any owner or manager to do is to trust someone working for you to do their job and not get too involved yourself. the temptation to micromanage is hard to overcome.
  5. Which is really going to make it difficult to find out what we've got in Corral.
  6. How did Darnold do in TC last year? I don't really remember much other than them coddling him and holding him out of preseason games, which they likely won't do with either him or Corral this year. I don't think it was anything special from Darnold other than he's making all the throws and that kind of thing. Nothing really jaw dropping one way or the other, iirc. I guess point is, if it's Darnold's job to lose...if he doesn't do too bad without pressure coming at him in TC, he might just keep the job for Day 1. Preseason games are going to be the earliest tell and that's if they don't hold him out again.
  7. can any of them do returns? That's the biggest issue right now.
  8. true. at the very least he gives us a better backup option than we've had since DA. I think just because of having CMC healthy (for a while) and an upgraded OL, sammy will look better. hopefully not enough to justify rhule keeping Corral on the sidelines. I just don't trust Rhule and if Corral doesn't get a shot in play time, I'm not going to necessarily hold it against Corral. I'm hoping that Corral just blows the doors off in TC. Sammy's problem, though, isn't exactly practicing. It's what happens when the pressure is on in games when live bullets are flying.
  9. imo he's the most exciting QB we've aside from Cam. I've said elsewhere that he can make watching the panthers offense fun again. He's got a lot of the same kind of play making traits. Of course not as good, but still very talented and can make stuff happen when the pressure is on. totally agree here. i think the picture is filling out. winning season will be tough because it's a tough looking group of opponents, but it's still very doable...unless we revert back to Sammy running the offense, which i could totally see Rhule letting happen because he would rather play a bad vet than a promising rookie. i still think that unless we make a deep run in the playoffs that Rhule should be fired. i doubt that's Tepper's standard, though. His standards are pretty low, apparently. Rhule doesn't really have excuses for not putting together at least a winning season, though. Also, I'm not at all worried about Icky. He'll be solid from day 1.
  10. Hopefully Corral shows enough that we don't have to. If we can get 6 games out of him we should be able to get a good idea about him.
  11. I think yes, especially him being a rookie. You're going to naturally want to rely more heavily on the run game for any rookie. I think the offense needs to definitely be built around what he's good at and take into consideration what he's not too good at (the long ball). Also totally agreed on him needing to not try to bulldoze defenders.
  12. Rhule is the real wild card here. Will Rhule trust a rookie over a vet, even if the rookie looks to be better? I don't know. He sure didn't do that last year. I fully suspect that regardless of how well Corral does, Rhule won't trust him over Sammy and will be forced to make the change.... probably due to injury.
  13. True and he got hurt scrambling in the pocket. He does take on defenders a good bit and I'm not crazy about that, but like I said he's also good about sliding and I'd like to see a lot more of that when he takes off running.
  14. Hmmm.... Lol I guess I blocked that out of my head. Not surprised, though. I mean he's the guy that tried trading up for Clausen.
  15. I see that and get it, but what I see gives a lot of room for optimism...and not the forced kind that I tried to have with Sammy. If he doesn't pan out, fine....then we swing again. Corral is the QB I was hoping for going into the draft, so I was sold on him already. I mean I wanted either Icky or Neal or some top LT because I 1) thought the talent better and 2) thought the need was more important to address, but I would have been ok him getting drafted in the first, especially over the other QB options just based on his potential/ceiling and ability to reach that potential I saw.
  16. I never saw anything that said Hurney had a first round grade on Grid, but whatever...it was cokehead Hurney. You're not comparing players. You're comparing draft spots. Again, that's just not a good comparison. Again... whatever. Having watched both guys, Corral has/had a lot more to offer. Draft position doesn't mean poo. What they do and are capable of doing on the field and if it can translate to the pros is all that matters. You either watch or you make assumptions. I watched. I watched most of the guys that were in contention for being drafted at QB this year (thanks to long haul covid I had a lot of time on my hands) and what I saw from Corral I really liked. He wasn't perfect by any means, but what I saw was a guy who was tough and fought hard, had a short memory when he made mistakes, who made things happen when things broke down, and whose talent he brings to the table can easily be translated to the pros. The guy does a good job of scanning the field, taking advantage of what the defense gives him. He's not a gun slinger, imo, which is fine because even though he's got a cannon he's not as accurate, but in the short/intermediate game he's super accurate and man is he quick getting that ball out. As a runner he's tough, but he also knows how and when to slide (which is something Cam wasn't so good at as a rookie). He's great at hitting players in stride and he's great throwing on the scramble. I mean there's so much I liked about his game and he's exciting to watch. He's easily better than Sammy (which the bar isn't set really high) and I'm hoping that we do a good job of building the offense around him and getting him ready. With MacAdoo running the offense, I'm sure we can get that done. He's super quick and decisive. If you want to run a fast super uptempo offense, this is the kind of guy you want. On two minute drills, he's the kind of guy you want. On short yardage plays, with his legs, he's the kind of guy you want. What I saw and heard about him in getting the players charged up, especially on important plays and situations, this guy is the type guy you want. He's a natural on RPO and read option and play action. He's smooth in those type plays....very Cam-like. Seriously, I like him. He's not as good as Cam by any means, but he can bring a lot of the same type things. Basically, Matt Corrall can make watching the panther offense fun again.
  17. Most weren't? I think that was at least half the discussion about him yesterday and for much of the draft process.
  18. @TheSpecialJuan Why would you want to start this thread? You that desperate for attention? The article is from 2017 and we all know about this now.
  19. You know.... I'm fine giving Rhule the late round picks and UDFAs. I mean what's the worst that can happen? It's not like he'll keep his pets on the roster just because of a connection he had with them, right?
  20. Don't get me wrong, I would much rather have Foles than Darnold, and I know the coaching staff and FO would as well. Probably the whole team would rather have him, but we're stuck. We screwed up with that fifth year option. Vote of confidence shot us in the foot and now we've got to limp. Serves us right.
