What franchises are in worse shape than the Panthers
rayzor replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
i think we are on the ground floor working up. i'm not worried about the direction we're going. we'll get QB figured out. every other part is getting built with younger pieces. not much established here. we're establishing the foundation. there's other clubs, though, that i think should be worried because they are in the process of hitting bottom for one reason or a dozen others. these are clubs i think that are in worse shape. they might have more talent, but they aren't going anywhere and they won't without an overhaul somewhere. cowboys, jets, saints, browns, titans, giants, jaguars...lots of reason to feel hopeless for fans of those teams. -
trust the money man. he's the best chance we've got in a situation like that. not even close.
-
He's got the tools. He's got the size. He did pretty well his rookie year. Something went wrong somewhere. Was it him? Was it the organization? Was it the coaching staff? Would it be worth the cheap look? Wouldn't hurt. Then there's that neck. Not sure I could deal with that long term.

royalty. -
i don't like it, but this is better than going to the coaches and players and saying..."hey, for the good of the team, take the foot off the gas." i want nothing to do with that. i doubt any players or coaches would and for good reason.
-
So you do this at 1-11, but not at 0-3? That's the threshold?
-
Lol ok

question i keep asking everyone...do you tell the players to just not try so hard? Do you tell the coaching staff to throw games by calling bad plays or keeping good players off the field? how do you accomplish this?
-
what makes you think that? he's only missed 2 out of 13 attempts from 50+ in 4 years. he hasn't kicked more from that range only because we haven't asked him to. he's got good range. the long one he kicked this year he made it look easy.

we stumbled onto something good with him, that's for sure.

zac's contract is going to make that difficult, but it just seems like too perfect a fit. -
nailed it

True. Very much a narcissist. But he's always been that. Now he's a narcissistic helicopter soccer mom. -

It would be hard not to be. You know they're going to give him opportunities. Probably most of Sanders. I think it could be a thing of beauty seeing both of them.
-
And we haven't even seen Brooks yet. I think we've got a good offensive playmaking core there. Also, Chuba is still really young, young even for an RB. Once we get our offense rolling I think we're going to be hard to stop. All we need is that QB.
-
maybe, but i think with all of them we can get a good few years out of. Robinson is legit starting quality, imo. I like Tuttle as an NT as well. i'd put Clowney and Wonnum in the "good enough" category, but i wouldn't necessarily consider them or really Tuttle as 'the answer' especially long term. Depth is by far the biggest concern. it might be necessary to go D all draft.

get the team right, then get your QB and make it easy for the QB to do his job. Good OL play helps immensely. Good receivers helps immensely as well. But also, you need to have a defense that can give your offense more and better opportunities and take the pressure off the need to score 40 points or throw 500 yards a game. if you are expecting your QB to fix everything, you're expecting too much. QB is only 1 of 11 on offense and then there's the whole defense. it doesn't matter who your QB is if they aren't on a team that is put together right.

i do agree that the focus needs to be on the front 7. the front that we've got now would look MUCH better with Derrick Brown there. A'Shawn and Shy are good, but the three of them together would have big time changed what we have been able to do up front. I want to see them together next year. I like Clowney and i'm thrilled we got Wonnum in there finally. I'm hoping that Wonnum and he are able to secure things on the edge going forward. Hopefully we can keep those two and add to edge through the draft. Those two together with the trio of Brown/Tuttle/Robinson was how it was supposed to be. We need to add depth to all of that, though. And then at linebacker, i think that tevin wallace is the future in the middle of the LB corps. i really like josey jewell as well. we do need to be strengthening the LB corps, though...especially if we switch back to 4-3 (which i really don't see happening for a while). We need depth and we need the guys to stay healthy. i think we actually have a good start. it's just having the guys be healthy. If we add a couple FA parts and then go heavy in the draft towards the front 7, i think we'll be seeing a lot of improvement.

that's another discussion for one of a few hundred threads.

i don't like that it's with the commanders for some reason. but i just don't lie that they have been doing well anyways. not sure what team i would have been happy them going to, though. i wish they could have been a big part of what we're doing here and make the defense here better, but whatever. water under the bridge.
