his death was a completely senseless and stupid tragedy. same with this "remembrance"

this is what i have been saying for years. he was good, but he was also luckier than any QB out there. guy could be running around all over the backfield scrambling to get away from the pressure and then start falling down and just launch the ball up in the air from anywhere to anywhere and there would miraculously be a WR right there making what looks like an incredible catch of a crazy throw and it happened so often that wilson got known as being this incredible QB. i thin that his WRs just got used to the idea early on that they needed to always be ready for an unexpected ball coming their way at unpredictable times and that kind of became their culture. he doesn't have that anymore. he ain't in seattle anymore. he walked away from his security blankets and he's been exposed.

I'm sure he's a nice guy and says and does "all the right things", but i think that what people are seeing is that he has worked hard to make sure that this is all that people see and he works hard to keep that identity. and when you have to work hard to reinforce an identity, no matter how genuine it may have been at one point, it becomes artificial, forced, and contrived. his identity as a nice guy became his brand, but eventually that brand overtook him and the result is this really weird persona that is hard for anyone to identify with or connect to. more than that, he's made himself almost inaccessible to his teammates. i don't think that people dislike him because he's a nice guy. there's nothing wrong with being one of the nice guys. in fact we need more authentically nice guys...which i think is where part of the problem is, he doesn't come across as authentic anymore. he comes across as someone who is trying to be better and above everyone, which rubs people the wrong way. and he's kind of weird/odd...and not in a good way. add to all that, that wilson apparently was coddled in a huge and unhealthy way, unhealthy way for him because it took away any opportunities for personal growth and unhealthy for a team because it set him apart as the ultimate teachers pet...the one in which the world revolved around and who was not held accountable for anything. the problem was that it worked...until it didn't anymore. they were able to remain competitive for a long time with that wilson centered culture. and then they weren't. wilson started seeing a world in seattle that didn't revolve around him so he thought, since he was so special, that he could go anywhere and they would automatically appreciate him. well, he went "anywhere" and he's seeing that the world isn't any better there. i'm just curious to hear where he places the blame fir the failure there. hopefully he's realizing that he's not as special as he thought.

At this point I'm just kind of along for the ride. I don't know what to hope for or wish for and I don't know what the best answer is anymore.

Who should we be looking at outside the "top 4" QB candidates?
rayzor replied to rayzor's topic in Carolina Panthers
That's also an option....at least not early in the first or in the first round at all. I don't think we should leave the draft without throwing a draft pick at all at QB relatively early. I think we should just keep swinging, but if we aren't completely thrilled with the choice at QB in the top 5 picks, go with a stud defensive guy and then make a move later to attempt to get a QB. -
I don't have a dog in that fight but my wife is a state fan and she's happy so I'm gonna be happy.

Tanner McKee is really interesting to me. A bit one dimensional, but that's not a deal breaker. Not as exciting and gives less options on offense, but if he's good at what he does, I'm good with that. -

Penix injuries scares me from taking a shot in the first, especially the first half of the first round. I like him otherwise. -

Richardson has the lowest floor but the highest ceiling. Dude is a gamble, but if he pays off....watch out NFL. -

I wouldn’t mind spending the 2nd round pick on this..
rayzor replied to WOW!!'s topic in Carolina Panthers
Agreed. Guy is a real specimen and will definitely be getting attention from teams picking in the 15+ range. Someone would pull that trigger. Would love to have him fall to us, though. Friggin beast -
Icing on the cake is the amount of guaranteed money they gave him.

Sounds about right, and we end up winning the game because Russell Wilson forgets he's not on the Seahawks anymore when he gets under center and starts calling audibles and no one has a clue what to do

Dan Graziano: Panthers interested in Frank Reich

Yep. How difficult could your job be? And that defense doesn't make your job more difficult either. -
Quote ‘DJ needs to catch the balls when thrown to him’

This is really getting to me as well. Never been a fan of this style of "leadership". It doesn't matter if he said this stuff to DJ privately...let it stay in private. It's no one else's business. You don't throw your employees/players under the bus publicly. If someone is going to fall on the sword, it has better be yourself, don't throw the people under you on it and don't ask them to fall for you. -

Passing on Dorsey. Doesn't seem anything particularly special or innovative about him. Doesn't seem able to adapt or scheme all that well. Kellen Moore.... Pretty curious there, but is what he's doing sustainable? -

https://www.theringer.com/nfl/2022/11/7/23445739/indianapolis-colts-fire-frank-reich-reaction-jim-irsay-chris-ballard-jeff-saturday Decent read in how firing Reich was a big mistake made by an owner who has no clue what he's doing and makes rash, irrational decisions based on whatever emotions his drunk ass is feeling. Hiring Jeff Saturday only solidifies the idea irsay doesn't know what he's doing. It also lays blame on the GM who is, on record, committed to NEVER drafting a QB because he's afraid of failing and being run out of town. Reich hasn't done great but he's done better with the same kind of sucky QB carousel we've had here. His offense has done well considering the poo QBs he's had and adapted each time to their strengths. He's not top on my list and would prefer we went with a fresh untried face, but I wouldn't hate it at all if we decided on Reich. The problems we've faced here has largely been the result of having a bad coach with too much control. The problems the colts have had has been from having a drunk irrational owner and a GM without a spine.
