Steve Wilks has proved he has what it takes to be HC
rayzor replied to Verge's topic in Carolina Panthers
i'd rather not go the mccoy route. never really been a fan. no real track record of success in any capacity other than being able to stay employed somewhere for the past couple decades. -
Steve Wilks has proved he has what it takes to be HC
rayzor replied to Verge's topic in Carolina Panthers
i don't see him really ever being the HC that out-schemes his opponents, but he may not need to be. he's accomplished in just a few weeks what rhule thought was going to have to take years more to build...he's changed the culture, he's reformed it. he's made it competitive. now i don't know completely what the endgame culture-wise was for rhule, but i'm not sure he ever did either. the fact that wilks isn't a micro-manager, and that he lets his coaches coach will go a long way in the success of the team going forward. you get the best possible OC in here and Wilks will be stepping aside and letting him do his job, just like he's done with macadoo, and that's exactly what we need if we don't have a offensive guru as HC. of course get a good QB is also a big thing, but still...he's got a significant advantage over any other HC candidate out there. anyone that gets hired will have to take time to know and be known by the team. they'll all have to learn what to expect from each other and they'll be starting over from scratch. it might be something in which a dramatic transition takes place and everything clicks right into place, but more than likely there will be time spent trying to figure things out and we're looking at another year or two to be relevant. imo, wilks is saying and doing all the right things needed to get a jump start and all we'll need is that OC and QB combo. if the seattle win wasn't a fluke and this is a team that can fight and fights into the playoffs, then he's the safe and smart bet that helps us hit the ground running next year. -
yes. i mean i don't have much confidence that we will go beyond the first round, but i think we're built to make it hard for anyone we face. it won't be a cakewalk and it would be a great motivator heading into the offseason. it doesn't matter how you get into the playoffs. only thing that matters is what you do when you get there and the old phrase “On Any Given Sunday, any team can beat any other team.” holds true for the playoffs just like it does in the regular season. as long as we are on the field, especially with the fight that has been instilled in these guys, and if that OL can keep pushing its way through and that defense still holds up, we can beat any team in the league....meaning we've got a chance. at the point when rhule was fired, i don't think anyone really believed that we would do anything. the season was over for the panthers. now things are clicking and the situation is lining up to give us that opportunity to get in the playoff dance. sure, we could get embarrassed...but 1) i doubt that we would ...we'll put up a fight and 2) just getting there is a big boon for morale finishing up the season especially contrasted with where we were as a franchise 6 weeks ago. the big thing in finishing up a season is feeling good about what you're building. if you can't win the whole thing, you've got to have that.

yep. big question is who is going to get the most INTs Sunday. Horn or someone else.
-
what we're doing to others is what was done to us the last couple years. we kept getting bullied, but it was "ok" because it was part of rhule's plan or something like that. wilks gets in charge and we start becoming the bullies.
-
So what are we overreacting about?
-
the more crying steeler fans we have the better.

i think for wilkes it was a chance to rebuild the team's confidence. getting spanked by the bengals didn't help things, but i think most people were considering that a loss anyways. beating atl at BOA in a prime time game was the most attainable goal for a new coach trying to build something.
-
same here. i quit caring with rhule. apathy was really taking root. this is the most fun i've had watching in years. even when we lose now, i've been invested and feel like the guys left everything out there. they care about the game. with rhule, their minds were somewhere else...by design.
-
i thin it was just a matter of them focusing on ATL knowing that it was going to be a short week anyways. i know they keep pushing this idea of the next game is the big game and looking at it only one week at a time, but it was going to be a division rival coming to Charlotte on a short week after losing to them in a close hard loss a week before. the team needed a win and beating ATL at home on thursday night was going to be a bigger deal for the team and fans from a morale point and in division standings. basically they just sacrificed that game to focus on the falcons. that's what makes sense to me.

i think for this year it's fine. i think even going forward it will still be good to have a team that can bully with the run the way we do. the problem is that we don't have much of a choice. we certainly don't have a QB that can help us out in a shootout so that's definitely going to have to be addressed, along with a pass catching TE or two. i don't think we need a personality change as a team, tbh. i like the pounding culture. we just need to add to it, add the capability to kill through the air if needed. but i have to admit loving watch that seattle defense get wore out because we keep battering away. adding more of an air game to it can only thin out the defense more. i mean the way we're loading up at the line with big bodies, it's only a matter of time before defenses start stacking the box and shutting us down. we don't have much to spread the ball and them out. if wilkes can keep this aggressive nature going and building, i really don't care what our philosophy is otherwise. more than half the battle is getting players bought in to whatever mindset you are trying to instill. if it's aggressive, situationally aware, and disciplined (which this team seems to be), it will go along way in being successful. i was big on getting some offensive brain to make us one of those flashy offenses that will pile on the points, but i'm really warming up to the idea of wiles being that guy. Just get him a better OC and QB and TE and i think we're set.

that and sammy's rolling into the endzone after the fumble are probably my two favorite plays this year. at least the most interesting/entertaining. these guys, though, are doing incredibly well with situational awareness. if they can possibly make it work, they're going to find a way. speaks to the mentality of the players, they just seem to plain care more about what happens.
-
that's what i was going to point out. a big part of the reason they have been so successful with the run game is that they put the added beef up front. Front 7s are just overwhelmed.

Are you In favor of bring back Laviska Shenault next season?
rayzor replied to micnificent28's topic in Carolina Panthers
We need him. -
And I do love listening to Wilkes. Best coach from that standpoint we've had.
-
We're built to bully and bruise the other team in both sides of the ball. We keep pounding away at them. Hopefully we can keep it up.

What does Steve Wilks do better than Ron Rivera?
rayzor replied to Sean Payton's Vicodin's topic in Carolina Panthers
This. I'll take Wilks over Rivera easily. -
So CAR is now 1 GAME behind the division lead?
rayzor replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
We are going to be facing Mitch who just had a very impressive 3 int performance in 3 consecutive drives. We just had a 2 Int game against who has been talked about as the frontrunner for league MVP who has been the most efficient QB of the year. We gonna feast next week. -
Today it's tears.

Yeah I quit trying to think. I don't know how late Ng this is going to last, but I'll take it. I really like what I'm seeing. If course I keep getting this thought in my head when I see Sammy back there that something is about to go wrong. He/they are looking pretty competent right now. I mean this is the coming out of a bye type game we haven't seen in a long time

I don't know what to think....
