i don't know...i think there was going to be a lot of hot air either way. Media wasn't going to be able to let go of it one way or the other and there comes a point where you just say "fug it" and quit trying to play that game. Media wanted to see him over 200lbs, and he gave it to them, but even then it wasn't a closed issue and it wasn't going to be a closed issue regardless of what he did. In reality there's only two teams who it truly matters to, us and the Texans, because he's going to one or the other. If he's been assured by one or both that they are looking beyond that, and i'm sure it's been discussed with him by both teams at this point...i just don't think he cares anymore what anyone else is saying. even if he does fall past us or the texans, he won't be falling past the colts. i just don't think that he will fall that far. it's either 1 or 2 and his size likely doesn't play as major a role in that decision as many of us and especially the media believes. he's not trying to get drafted first or second overall by mass media or the fans. he's trying to get drafted by several very interested teams who already know the real story we're all debating over.
-
i don't think that ultimately it's much of a factor. he didn't weigh in because it's a distraction, and maybe not a concern to a team really interested in him. he's got lots of doubters and speculators because of his size, but his weight doesn't tell much of his story. everyone who needs to know, they know. the weigh in was for media. it's all just talking points, but i think it's something that we, if we are the team that is going to draft him already knows the real deal on and they will have chosen to look past his size.
-
i just see him as a guy who has been able to process and adapt to anything in front of him and be able to do it quickly. aside form his size, there is no reason to believe this guy won't be elite. i just wonder if that size is enough of a deterrent on it's own and i'm inclined to believe that, because of the other things brought to the table... things he brings and that this team will bring (superior coaching and what is shaping out to be one hell of an OL)... i just don't think that his size won't be something that will come at much of a disadvantage to him or at least i don't think that it will keep him from realizing his potential and being a long term factor in the game.
-
but it's all just supposition that he's going to have a short career and injury prone because of his size. there's no debating his size, and i think his playing weight is around 190. its just a data point, nothing more. there's nothing to show that he'd be more prone to injury than QBs 10, 20, or even 30 pounds more than him. if the only factor in play was his size, then that would probably be an issue. but there's a whole lot more to the story than his size. Tua wasn't concussed frequently because of his size compared to other QBs.

the thing is, they had to learn to adapt. their lack of mobility made them a target so they had to learn to get the ball out quicker. Young seems to be able to get the ball out quickly and also sense and evade incoming defenders and hits. he's adapted not being able to see over huge linemen by scrambling around and getting his own viewing lanes but also knowing where everyone is supposed to be at any given point during a play. It makes sense that he would be able to adapt to other limitations he has, like being much smaller than the defenders wanting to bring him down.

it makes sense. flexibility i think is a huge factor. like i think that Levis is actually going to be more prone to injury than Young because he's just a weight lifting gym rat who is lacking flexibility. I've seen several speak to this regarding Levis. The heavier and also the more rigid you are, the more likely you are going to get hurt.

that one study that @stan786shared in the other thread that i posted in here showed that the larger the player was, the more prone to injury they were. of course i don't think this was talking about contact injuries specifically, just all injuries. But even if you were to isolate contact injuries, would size be a quantifiable factor?
-
but will his elusiveness and spacial awareness keep him from taking more hits and will his flexibility allow him to cut down on the force of blows? i think if he was more of a pocket QB that he would be more prone to taking big hits. Scrambling around the backfield usually makes a QB less likely to take a hit. I think Cam's worse injuries happened when he was in the pocket and wasn't on the move.
-
but what about for other smaller QBs, because he might be the smallest, but he's not the only smaller QB to play. Were they more prone to injury than any other QBs? I mean is there enough evidence showing that we would be walking into a dangerous situation other than speculating because he is so small? I'm not looking for "common sense" because common sense is often subjective, but i am looking for data to show this is something that we should really be concerned about. I mean all we have right now is a lot of opinions stating that it's an issue because either it "makes sense" that it would be an issue or because we've never seen someone that small take on the role.
-
i have been thinking about this and i'm sure most of you have been as well. we're concerned about Young's size and how likely it is for him to get injured by players twice his size. i know it makes sense that it would be a major concern, but is that concern really warranted? Are smaller framed players, especially QBs, more prone to injury than larger ones? Just like the issue of batted down passes, there are some players more prone to having them batted down, but it isn't because of their height. Could it be that the stats bear out that size isn't really a factor in frequency of injury for QBs? Thanks to @stan786 for finding this article on weight vs. injuries https://www.footballoutsiders.com/stat-analysis/2018/weight-and-injuries I'm going to let you all look at it and see what you think and also see if you can find anymore studies showing this. again, it makes sense that it would be a concern, but is the concern warranted by any actual stats? or is it all, "he's so small and they're so big!!!"?

Statistics: There is no correlation btwn QB height and batted passes

i keep seeing this concern, and i have it myself, but i wonder if it's really warranted? I mean are smaller framed players, esp. QBs, more prone to injury? Do the stats bear that out? I'm going to start another thread about this. seems like a worthwhile discussion. -

I would like to see if there is a study showing a correlation between player/QB size and injury frequency/durability. Surely it's been done. -

Good QBs will always recognize areas that are a natural weakness and they will adapt to work around them and overcome them. Good coaching staffs help this happen. It can be a big deal, but it can also be worked around, which it seems Young has been able to do. Yet to be seen if he can do it in the pros, but this is one thing that i think he will be able to carry over to the pros. He'll find his sight lanes. He'll have to scramble to do it, but he can do it. -
What about white whiskers?

I trust these coaches and staff in a way I haven't in a long time, if ever. That would just be a harder thing to trust them on. I think they'd still be able to make it work out well, it's just a lot harder to visualize and it would take a lot longer to make it happen than it would with Young or Stroud. I'm only getting older and my ticker is moving quicker. I'd really like to see us hoist a Lombardi before I start thinking that Tuesday's taste like oatmeal.

I'll be among the imploders, especially if it's Levis I'll try to make the best of it, but my gut would be in knots. AR would be a tough sell, but I could be bought on the idea that they could turn him into something beyond special. Still, I'd rather not have to work to be excited. Just give me Stroud or Young and I'll be good

I've been of the opinion that you can't go wrong with either Young or Stroud so really.... I'm at peace with however it shakes out as long as it's one of those two

Not used to good things happening. More used to major f*ckups and bad decisions.

I hope he's there still for them to take.... because that means we didn't.

Dear Chicago and media…. About that first next year…..
rayzor replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'm thinking that this year we'll win 10+ games, win the division, get to the divisional round of the playoffs, and that 1st round pick will be in the mid 20s.
