You're right. I should have said why to build a team instead of getting Watson.
-
Watson in 2020 had over 4800 yards passing, 33 Tis, only 7 ints and a passer rating of 63.7 but won only 4 games. He played great but the team stunk. If Rhule feels he's on the hot seat, and with a possible suspension looming along with giving up already good young players, he (and we) truly can't expect 2022 to be a real good season? What happens if Watson is suspended 6 to 8 games? Losing future #1's and some good young players that starting showing signs of being solid players, IMO will weaken this team. If we had all the picks, like the Eagles, then you've got nothing to lose. Your team already went to the playoffs and you're loaded with picks. We don't have that, actually quite opposite. Unless they give up less then everybody's throwing out there, I can't see it being worth it. The safe move is get a great LT if you can't trade back a little and get a few more picks. Horn will elevate the back 7 but they should sign either Gilmore or Jackson. I also don't think losing Reddick will destroy us as Gross-Matos and Haynes are getting better (not fill his shoes) but we shouldn't have a massive drop off with Burns still in there. Brown, Fox, Nixon and even Hopkins. Need 1 good pick up to add to the mix. On offense, get a vet to compete with Darnold (like Jimmy G or Mariotta) but build the O-line through draft and FA. Then in 2023 we can solve our QB problem. Even Mahomes couldn't win the SB (with a loaded team) except having 2 bad tackles cost them the game. Who knows, maybe with a better O-line coach they will be better. I hope but what ever they do, I think Tepper and Rhule have learned a lot and will make better moves moving forward.

Buy (as in sign big name FAs) your way to the Super Bowl. With picks not always working out, is it better to get proven commodiaties?
-
With all the edge rushers in the draft and some being released, and some teams in cap trouble already, he may not get that. That's why, IMO the Panthers want to leave the communication open. If he doesn't get the money he wants, he would probably take lower to stay, even if it's a 2 year deal.

Release Dennis Daley, G 2,540,000 - it will probably happen. Matt Paradis, C (post jun-1) 4,146,668 Limit Hajrullahu, P/K 825,000 - done Cameron Erving, T 2,000,000 - keep as a back up. $9,511,668 Restructure Shaq Thompson, LB 5,190,000 - I would keep him and try, even add a year. Christian McCaffrey, RB 5,673,750 - tough one. I think he has to play out the year so you know what you have in trade value or a franchise player. Taylor Moton, RT 11,373,750 - I can see them doing something Trade Robby Anderson, WR 9,163,332 - Almost impossible. You'd get a 6th or 7th round pick right now. If you just want him gone to clear space, then maybe. CJ Henderson, CB 2,475,108 - Valuable rotational piece as you need at least 4 to 5 good corners. Keep for another year or 2. AJ Bouye, CB 3,479,412 - Takes a cut to stay or trade but it would be a low pick, like a 6th or 7th rounder. Again need corners and we're not resigning both Ajax and Gilmore. Extension DJ Moore, WR 8,064,800 - He's worth the most in a trade (we could get a 1st and 3rd for him) but I would want to keep him.

So far, so good. Decent coach hires and our 1st re-signing.

Barely a .500 college coach who took over 2 programs at the bottom of the barrel and turned them around in 3 years. He may be struggling in the NFL, but it's like a new language, some things take time to learn. I'm not making excuses but looking at it realistically. Injuries are part of the game. Most coaches can't over come them, some do. It just feels like many fans, including you, make it personal. It can't be easy with everyone judging every move you make. Every mistake is magnified. A new coach is another 2 to 3 years of a turn around, if, that's IF he can turn it around. Let's just all shut up, breath and give it a year (which Tepper did already so we can't change that) and then you all can say I told you so to each other if he gets fired in the future. I hope it turns around and we start winning because thats what a loyal fan does. Good or bad roots for the team.

To be fair, he loses Luke - out of no where, the captain and leader on defense and probably the teams best player. The next year, he misses with the FA O-line pick ups (but does fairly good the Defense) but the loss of Horn had a domino effect. Sam was doing OK, when then he loses CMC and Dan Arnold (if Horn doesn't get hurt, we don't trade him), his 2 best pass option when under pressure or more importantly, because when CMC's playing, defenses have to account for him. Anderson had the drops and a terrible year and even DJ Moore dropped a bunch of key passes. Our WRs are telling the coaches the other teams know what we're gonna run so the OC is suspect. Rhule makes some questionable game time decisions. It was a bunch of misses all rolled up into 1 big one. Rhule is getting the right coaches (with experience) and Tepper has patience because it takes longer to start over. He must see something or understand what transpired better than us. Doesn't give Rhule a free pass for ever but he comes from Pittsburgh that had 3 coaches in the last 50 years, or something like that.

I really like this mock draft by Dean Jones...
musicman replied to musicman's topic in 2023 NFL Draft
But I don't see him starting next year. Darnold with a hopefully better line is a step in the right direction. Another draft and maybe, just maybe we are ready to take a major step towards competing for the playoffs. -
https://catcrave.com/2022/02/07/carolina-panthers-7-round-2022-nfl-mock-draft-senior-bowl/ I would take everyone. May switch the Safety before the WR in the back rounds, but supper solid. A QB and 2 strong interior OL guys would be a win IMO. If a QB can't step up and throw it doesn't matter who's at tackle.
-
If we're lucky, we'll trade back just a few spots and get a LT and pick up a late 2nd or 3rd round pick. Then get an O-lineman. I think they need to get a DT in FA. Take a QB is the 4th or 5th if they feel they need to develop someone.

If he goes to Michigan, we lose DC Snow too.

'20 Cam vs. '21 Garoppolo (and '19) (+ a Darnold tidbit)
musicman replied to Dory's topic in Carolina Panthers
SF wins because they have a good all around team, despite their QB. We need a good team all around before finding the franchise QB. Fields will be nothing in Chicago if they don't build around him. Murray didn't have a great team around him and they fizzled. Mac Jones didn't have enough and the list goes on. We need a really good O-line and Line that can stop the run and get some pressure. We do that, we will win 10+ games every year no matter who is at QB. But then having the franchise QB will take us over the top (Mahomes, Allen) and Burrow if they add more around him. -
I have met, talked and interacted with Tepper several times, even joked with him. He is not what you all say he is. Besides what he says in public (he's hiring football people and letting them do their jobs), he's not here to make everyone happy. He's here to make money and eventually win, but it takes time. I personally hate the personal attacks from people who don't know and only assume. If you don't like a business decision, then fine.

Would Andrew Norwell be interested in coming back?
musicman replied to hepcat's topic in Carolina Panthers
I would love for them to draft Neal or Cross at LT with the 6th pick, but I see them trading back and getting a 2nd and/or a 3rd. Hopefully still getting a top OL but maybe A QB mid 1st round. Then using picks to draft OL and DL. I think they feel with BC he can play LT or LG and Elflein at C in case they don't get somebody to start day 1. Depends on FA and who they sign. Since DL takes longer to develop I see a vet there (a space eater/run stopper). -
All the negative posts are BS to read. This forum use to post football logical stats and opinions. You can beat up Rhule will stats, I'll read and understand. But the over exaggerated negative one line junk posts ruin what use to be a decent forum to talk football. I am a frustrated fan, but I still look and hope for the positives. I will say when it's bad, back it up with stats. Rhule and Panthers didn't ruin this forum, the people in it. Maybe Rhule will stink another year and get fired or leave for a job in college, so be it. All I want is what they do now while in the job are positive moves that make us better next year. Can't we just talk about what we hope happens, or who we draft and why, backing it up with football logic?

Things couldn’t have set up better for Tepper and Rhule
musicman replied to mcsmoak's topic in Carolina Panthers
This is a tough crowd in here. Bengals coach Zac Taylor had like 6 or 7 wins his 1st 2 years. In his 2nd year, he lost his best player for most of the season (Burrow). We lost our best CMC for most of the year. The 2 upsets yesterday were won with defense and running the ball. We have a real good defense. All we need is a couple of breaks (health wise) and players to play up their ability (Anderson, Brown, etc) and we might be decent next year. Fingers crossed. -
That's what made me think that.
-
Looking at how good Burrow was with Chase and knowing all the other top players on that team, maybe Brady had nothing to do with their success. Same with many OCs out there. Having great players is a big part of their success. A truly great OC can make any group of players and adapt his playbook and still win.

Multiple analysts ridiculing Rhule's comments
musicman replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
He's being honest. Now we don't want him to tell us the real reason why? In hindsight, every team that didn't take Mahomes should be shamed. What about when the Giants took Eric Flowers several years ago. He was a can't miss tackle and he was a bust. Nothing is for sure. Is he making some mistakes, yeah. But who's perfect? I think Jaycee will be great for the Panthers. I think Mac Jones will be successful in NE, more than he would have been in Carolina. Fields is a wait and see. What did Sewell do in Detroit? Is it him or the team. Hindsight is a beautiful thing to learn and move forward, not dwell on the past. -
Thoughts on Fitterer's press conference
musicman replied to Leeroy Jenkins Ph.D.'s topic in Carolina Panthers
In the last game, they commented how TB's O-line only 1 guy missed 1 game and we had like 14 different line ups for the year. If Sam had their O-line, he would be better. Not Brady level but just better. We have nothing to lose for next year as we're probably not going to trade or sign high end FA QB. It's gonna be a draft pick, probably a 4th or 5th round pick to develop behind Sam. Then either sign or draft a 1st RD QB in 2023 with a better team around him. I hope we trade back a few spots, pick up a 2nd or 3rd and take the Center Tyler Linderbaum. Even if it means passing up on LT Neal from Alabama (who I really like). I would rather go with Brady at LT then Eflien at Center. Sign a Top G and play Brown at G and it gives us a chance. We need the middle of then line to hold up even more than the tackles as a QB needs to step up to avoid pressure. -
So every team had a new HC, new OC and new DC and turned over a good portion of the roster? Be freakin real with your answers.
-
So a new coach to NFL takes over a team in the middle of a complete world shut down, can't interact with his players and even scout guys, so he relies on past college players to get him up and running. Then with no fans or real player interaction, starts with the daft and rebuilds a defense that sucked. I don't count 2020. And on top of it, we got out of cap hell. What happens if Luke doesn't retire or CMC doesn't get hurt? Is Rhule doing everything right, no. But I don't think everybody can lump it all on him. Even drafting Horn was a good move but he got hurt (same day as CMC). How is that on him? The O-line is on him. Taking a chance on Sam was a good move when the other attempts didn't pan out. Picking up his option, not good. Giving Robbie more money or thinking Erving can be a starting LT also didn't work out. Luvu and Reddick worked out. Fox has been decent. But some guys show up great in practice and crack when out there. I'm not defending him but I don't count 2020 as a real year. Between Covid and the cap and everybody being new, it was a screwed up year. I'm just trying to be logical. Tepper (IMO) is not looking for quick results, he's looking for long term gains as in a consistent winner. He's hoping Rhule can do what he did in college. Nothing is a sure fire full proof winning formula. It took both Brady and Belichek to turn it around in NE and stay that good. Npndy has a franchise QB for 15+ years.

I saw the entire team on Friday and they looked loose. I even watched some of the defensive walk throughs. They looked like normal, getting ready for a game. It doesn't feel like a bad environment. I truly believe when people don't know the real story, every story put out there is believed. They have work to do and people have to make steps in the right direction so we'll see. Some things obviously didn't work out. Some did. Since we all can't do anything about it, we have 2 choices. Support them no matter what as a fan or jump off and find a new team to root for. It's like at a company, some people love the new boss and some don't. I am just gonna give it time. Maybe in college it took 2 to 3 years to turn around a program, but learning the NFL and its ways may take a little longer. We've got nothing to lose but to see. It's not like we were doing anything really good since 2016 on anyway. Tepper did say it could take 5 years when he hired Rhule. There's no reason to not believe someone who's had success at 2 different colleges couldn't do it in the NFL, he just may need a little more time. We don't want a flash in the pan, one great year and then back to square one. They, and fans want a consistent winner.
