  1. It's baffling. He's been an above average for the past 3 years. And people think they'd take Darnold in return.
  2. Some highlights from a recent Cam thread.
  3. Jimmy G is more than $5.4mm better than Darnold. Plus, there's no way they'd want a $19mm backup if they're indeed moving on from Jimmy G. And why would they trade him for someone with zero value when they could get picks or a serviceable player at another position?
  4. Trashy statement from the QB of one of the trashiest fanbases. This is so dead-on. Did you come up with this quip?
  5. The Cowboys fans I’m watching this with are all arguing either or both of 1) “the NFL is rigged” or 2) “but that didn’t effect the play.” LOL
  6. Tbh a lot of posts like this on this board are really just tacit defense of (the current version of) Cam.
  7. No but it sure papers over a lot of cracks. Look at Burrow.
  8. Joe Burrow got sacked 51 times this year. Their OL isn't great. But he's risen above, and then some. Excited to see what he does in the next round(s).
  9. Love to see the Pats getting stomped. 20 years of frustration unleashed in that game.
  10. Definitely. Burrow looks like an All-Pro, and the rest of their team is pretty good too.
  11. Super Wildcard AFC: (3) Bills over (6) Patriots (2) Chiefs over (7) Steelers (4) Bengals over (5) Raiders NFC (2) Bucs lose to (7) Eagles (3) Cowboys lose to (6) 49ers (4) Rams lose to (5) Cardinals Divisional AFC: (1) Titans over (4) Bengals (2) Chiefs over (3) Bills NFC: (5) Cardinals over (6) 49ers (1) Packers over (7) Eagles Championships Chiefs over Titans Packers over Cardinals SB Chiefs over Packers
  12. Great point. Given that 1) Darnold out-produced Cam last year and 2) people are saying Cam would be at or above his MVP-level form if he played for an average team (see pg. 12) or Mahomes would look worse in Carolina than Cam did (pg. 13), it should follow that Darnold would pretty much be a lock for the MVP award next year if any of ~20 teams traded for him.
  13. Gotcha — all I needed to know. No real point in arguing when the baseline assessment is so disparate. No hard feelings and have a good night.
  14. I mean you’re arguing from the null hypothesis that the current iteration of Cam Newton is as good (or better) than Pat Mahomes. That really says it all / I think we’re done here.
  15. Out of curiosity, what you you think a full season Cam stat line looks like in ‘22 if he played on (your definition of) an average team? Something like his Pats days (top 5 OL, subpar weapons)? Panthers pomp? Something else?
  16. Would Mahomes have been had a 58 QB rating across the 3 games that followed? And why, since you still haven’t addressed it, do you think that Panthers consistently graded as a middling team by QB-agnostic metrics, across the full season? Is there a conspiracy to make it look like Carolina’s QB play is the issue when it really isn’t?
  17. You are cherry picking to the extreme. And he was awful in the other three starts. His QB rating in that Miami game was 5.8[!]. You really think that was all on the OL? The Panthers were an average team, ex. the QB room, last season, and the stats prove it out. Cam and Darnold hindered, rather than elevated, them last season.
  18. For posting (pretty standard) stats that say the Panthers, ex. QB, are an average team? Vs. what, you just claiming otherwise with no backing other than "that's how I think it is?"
  19. No, it disproves your point. In terms of statistical value add, the non-QB Panthers are decidedly middle-of-the-pack. And coaching clearly isn't massively hampering that area, since they're average. QB is far-and-away the biggest weak point. Appreciate you may have a different worldview, but the metrics do not reflect your contention.
  20. See above. 5 QBs made the playoffs with worse supporting casts than the Panthers' stable.
  21. You're way over-indexing on how bad the Panthers are, ex-QB. Awful QB play makes line, weapons, etc. look bad too – it's a two-way street. Note a bunch of playoff QBs below the Panthers line:
  22. You think the Seahawks made a starter offer for Cam? And re: the second article, do you really read "I’m just waiting on the right opportunity. ... I’ve been getting offers, but the realization of it is, it has to be right" as merely 'I'm looking for the right coach, city, and team?' Especially when the team that did sign him 1) treated him like poo last time around and 2) has a mediocre coach / supporting cast? If anything, the first article gives pretty good context to the second – Cam turned down what was pretty clearly backup offer. FWIW, I like Cam – he's a local kid and I followed him when he was in HS. I also think still think he has a place in the league. But as a gadget, 5-to-10-snap player for a good team with a limited, but decent QB (say, Tannehill or heck, the Falcons at this point [although they're not good]) – not as a starter.
