do we want it to get better? -
Since we are popping up old threads, can we do one about letting Julius Peppers go to the bears?

Even better news. Lose out is a strong possibility. -

Do you want to lose or win? It’s evident Rhule is attempting to lose without being obvious. -
Receivers haven’t really been our “problem” this year. Running backs have. also fug brown

didnt we do one of these threads for Bashaud Breeland too?

ESPN suggests 2 QBs for 2022 for the Panthers...
TheCasillas replied to musicman's topic in Carolina Panthers
There are way better options that will cost less. No thank you. -
Nixon is on IR.he has been done since October.

ah okay, yeah I missed on Denzel Ward there, forgot he was part of the Deshaun Watson trade. The rest should be accurate. My bad. We can also add the Julio Jones trade as well, but that goes back a long time ago.

Im confused? Did I quote you? (just checked, I did not) I was responding to @mrcompletely11 question.

I never said 5-10 spots. The way that the order is coming together, you shouldnt have to trade back far. I thought I stated "2-3 spots." I will go back and edit if I made an error there. It literally just happened last year... Jaylen Waddle.... #6 pick. Non QB. Also, here are other years where teams traded into the top 6ish for non QBs: 1. 2018 Browns Denzel Ward (4th overall) 2. 2014 Bills for Sammy Watkins (4th overall) 3. 2014 Browns traded up to the 8th spot for Justin Gilbert 4. 2013 Dolphins for Dion Jordan (3rd overall) 5. 2013 Rams for Tavon Austin (8th overall) Bonus: 2017 49ers and Bears swapped spots in the top 5 (QB)DL) to answer your questions: The last time this happened, last year, and this has happened 7 times in the last 9 seasons. So there is reason to be optimistic that this could possibly happen for us, especially with the way Fitterer worked the phone last year.

Those are void. Look below in the bullets on Spotrac. We will only have to pay him the 3.6million because of a voided contract. You pay all gaurantees the final year. Thats why they are orange on Spotrac, they dont count. We have paid his 9 million dollar bonus at 1.8million per year. Since his contract has two years void, we push up the bonus to next year. That's why we owe him 3.6million at the end of void, and only take that hit for the dead space. A void contract deal is the exact opposite of "kick the can down the road"... because you dont owe the money at the end of the contract. You only owe the gauranteed portion, and the portion left that is gauranteed is the 3.6million from the 9 million signing bonus. This is what the Saints did with Hill earlier on in the season to create cap space. This directly from the page you are looking at: 2022-2023 are dummy years that automatically void ($3.6M of dead cap)

yeah its definitely possible. So if you look at the draft right now, the current most sought after players will be (not in this specific order): 1. Kayvon Thibodeaux - DE (Potential Top Pick) 2. Aidan Hutchinson - DE (Potential Top Pick) 3. George Karlaftis - DE 4. Derek Stingley Jr. -C B 5. Tyler Lindenbaum 6. Ikem Ekwonu - OT (Top 3) 7. Evan Neal - OT We have the 7th pick in the draft currently, so if we stay put, trading back to a OL needy team (Jets/WFT, who currently both sit within 2 picks of us), that would give an opportunity to drop a few spots, pickup picks, and still land Pickett. Now if we lose out, and Bears and Giants win one of their remaining games, we leap to pick 5.. which means that there is at least one DE left on the board, and Tyler Lindebaum. Which would give an opp to take TL, or trade back 1 to 2 spots to the giants, and pull what the eagles did this last draft. That could net us a huge return (bc its a top5 pick) and still land Picket in the top 7. Now this is all hypothetical, and there still a lot to occur, but we could be in a position where we could come out with Pickett (or one of many OL in this draft), and 2 -3 additional draft picks this year, plus a 1 next year. Currently, the most popular QB according to NFL Draft Network is Matt Corall, but that could all change overnight.

I wish I coud give you their exact names, I came across it when I was in a deep twitter rabbit hole on the upcoming rookie class. If I had a gun to my head it was either: 1. Solak 2. Crabbs 3. Joe Marino All are anlysts, so I trust their judgement. As I was typing this I found what Marino said: Arm Strength: Pickett won’t be confused as having a rocket launcher attached to right shoulder, but he has good arm strength. He frequently slots the football on outbreaking routes to the field and zips the ball into windows with good velocity. He is a terrific vertical passer that doesn’t have to dig deep to find the juice needed to drive it down the field.

Trades.

Do you guys have additional info on the arm talent? Pundits are saying he has a bigger arm than Herbert. At least from everything ive read. Sounds like you have both watched him play. I was sold when I read he was a faster stronger Herbert.

We will know Daniel Jones' fate this offseason. The giants have to determine whether or not they are picking up his 5th year option. I dont see the Giants going QB because they have bigger gaps elsewhere: 1. OL 2. DL 3. Secondary With the way the current draft order is looking, the Giants will have the opp to take the best OL on the board, and one of the top 3 DL on the board. I doubt they pass on that opportunity.

Kenny Pickett is what you would ask for in a first round QB. He has the traits this team has been lacking since prime Cam. 1. Prototype Size 2. Agile and Good speed 3. Accuracy outside of the pocket 4. Deep ball strength and accuracy 5. Accurate on the run 6. Not careless with the football Ive been watching videos on the kid to see what about his game I don't like, and he definitely has the potential to be a solid QB in the league. We will see after combine and interviews though.
-
right now, yes. However, that could change fast. Just some optimism.
-
I personally like what I have seen from the kid. I wouldnt be mad, I would be mad if we didnt spend free agency acquiring offesnive lineman. I'd also like us to consider trading future or current assets (including players) for oline talent. The good news is that this offseason is going to be a strong offseason for oline being available, including names being on the trading block.

This really wouldnt take much. We structured the contracts to be able to get out of them without heavy penalty. Realistically the only two contracts on our roster that can be considered "trapped" are Sam Darnold (but only 1 year) and CMC (there is an out next year, but still heavy in dead cap for 2024). We know a healthy CMC is worth it, but SD meh.... We dont really need to clean house, because we can take out the trash without getting finanically destroyed. I know this season sucked, but I feel really good about our financial management compared to the Hurney days.

So i did some diving in on Robby's contract. It was not a true 3 year deal, interestingly enough, we can cut him this offseason with minimal impact due to an out clause, and not just that we can cut him in 2023 with zero penalty because his gauranteed money is up at that point. This is another example of Samir crushing it in the salary cap department. The absolute most cutting Robby anderson would cost us is 3.8million dollars. So if cut this offseason, we would get 10million back toward the cap If we cut 2023 offseason, there would zero dead cap in 2024, and we would get 12million in immediate cap savings. Basically, ever since Samir has gotten here, contracts and cap adjustments are not the numbers you see on the sheet, there is more behind the story. The guy is a fuging savage.
-
If you look at the way we have done contracts since Samir has gotten here, he structures them where the cost is on the backend, with outs. He is pretty intelligent when it comes to salary cap management. That's exactly why Tepper hired him. I expect if we resign Hassan and Gilmore, the deals will be structured similiariy. The salary cap pressure woudnt come until the 2nd or 3rd year, and at that point we are wide open with our salary cap since we are tentivaly scheduled to have over a 100million in cap come 2023.
-
He wouldn't impact our salary cap next year because his contract is void. All of the money was accelerated into this last year. It's fake money. Spotrac lists the following: 2022-2023 are dummy years that automatically void ($3.6M of dead cap) Basically, what this means is that we are bringing the signing bonus (only gauranteed portion of his contract) into the first voidable year. Which is the 3.6m. I found this to be helpful: What happens when a contract voids? All the remaining bonus money is accelerated into that year’s cap. So, a five-year contract with a $20 million signing bonus – $4 million per year – that voids after two years means the remaining $12 million will hit the cap in the third year. Annual salaries typically are not guaranteed in the final years of a contract.
