This is why I still check out the site in the off season, sure the poop talk and the usual banter is entertaining, but these posts make me consider a paid subscription ( just to support open posts like this). Not only does the OP break out formations by diagram but adds the flexibility we have with new players. besides just having this type of posting in a blog- maybe have a new section on HOW the fug the game is played and more importantly how the Panthers play it. Imagine if the average fan knew the packages and could spot a switch in personnel in those packages for adjustments during the game. I'm so psyched for the D this year and the OP nailed it to why- different looks and plug and play positions ( Shaq will flourish in the this D). We'll be flying around the field... Bersen is worth a 4-5 spot , he has decent hands and cam was comfortable with him last year. But if we are going to to take the next step we need some real speed, even if it costs us some drop passes. I think we are done with just making first downs now... The burners start to fill up the 4-5 slots if not for anything else but to open up the field for the big guys but at a price-occasional bad routes and dropped passes. But then, it's easier to catch the ball if they have out run the D...

I think any games missed by Brady would be enough, the golden boy is not so golden after all. The draft pick is what will hurt the most and I wouldn't think that on the table ( or couch)....

If we start 3-1 before the break, we should make the playoffs at a min 9-7...there's going to be a bad stretch somewhere...but I'm looking forward to Cam whipping the ball into some of those big bodies this season, not to mention having some speed to keep the opposing D from cheating on the coverages. so hopefully, the passing will allow JStew to remain healthy but I do think we need another RB to emerge to take some hits for him. Our D will be Tenacious,and it will be interesting to see how the new guys fly around in our scheme. But home field in the playoffs will determine if it's a good season or something unreal...

I don't think he get a Luck deal nor a Kaep one either, Newton has plenty of upside but still has issues ( as a young QB) running through his progressions or just misses the the open receiver. It will depend on the where the guaranteed money falls, Kaep has $60M over 5 years guaranteed but also has to meet a bunch of requirements to get more.. A Flacco model is probably more like it, an increasing base over 6 years to ensure that they improve with a $3/4M signing bonus and extras for making playoff/ all pro. Regardless of the poor O line/ WR core, it's my opinion that the Panthers want to see better decisions on the field and an improvement from the 16th place QBR Newton had tlast year before he gets to a substantial base salary increases. Predict a 6 year deal @ $60M base/$20M in signing bonuses and Misc bonuses for performance...but may include a de-escalators for health//QBR/other. The base salary will be under $4M for the first three years with a signing bonus of around $4M a year ....

I was on the road last week and couldn't check the board out and turns out nothing changed in a week about Hardy.... If Hardy does any community service messages or social media on domestic violence ( and says its bad) - the chances of being a Panther increase. if he remains a petulant child and keeps being a smart ass- the NFL will make it hard on him...since it's a privilege to play, the NFL will drag out the investigation process and suspend him deep into next season- if he doesn't do anything to fix his PR now. He needs to: Publicly show remorse Meet with the front office and TD ( and others) and show that he has learned from his mistakes Ask for Panthers to take him back at reduced rate Shut up and get Kraken then he will have a damn chance at playing next year (it would easiest to return as a Panther), but he needs to get moving on rebuilding his image now or he will be in the Commish's dog house for a long time. I hope Hardy can rescue his season by growing the hell up, I do think being that this is his first time do "damage" to the shield will limit the suspension but really he needs to shut up and start showing some maturity. Which includes fixing this mess here first, get involved in the community offer to play at a discount and get the off social media. It sounds so stupid when your talking about a football player but he chose to hang out with a known drug user, had unsecured weapons and sometimes sounds like an idiot on social media. That was my question, wasn't one earlier discussions was that he had to be found innocent of the charges to have a possibility of returning as a Panther? I'm not sure if a dismissal would meet that requirement. It's more of an ethical issue than a criminal one. I would hope Hardy can make amends and stay a Panther ( and play for league min) and turn his life around now. TD would be a good mentor... But after 2014...I doubt JR feels like giving him a chance.

Just to clarify: the crotch deal is SEA wasn't it? and as far as Lafell and others- it was more of a cap issue than anything else...Smith - I agree with you but also it was time for a change in the locker room... but there is a character issue to consider...both NE and Panthers have had murders and I think we can agree that an issue that the NFL and teams need to improve on....
