I'm saying that no one wants to play next to a weak link. The more experienced and better that the lineman next to you is, and the more chemistry that the line is able to develop as a unit, the better that everyone will play. That's all I'm saying. With Ickey, the traits were always there, it just takes time to develop. I think we're doing some players a disservice by expecting them to be great off the bat. They can flash, but they're playing is likely going to be uneven until the light turns on.

Well we obviously aren't even thinking about moving him to guard, otherwise we wouldn't have paid so much for guards in the offseason. As for taking Moton's spot at some point, that's down the line, and only if we draft a tackle who is presumably better than Ickey on the left. I doubt it's the plan right now because we're getting stable LT play from Ickey. Honestly, it just goes to show, yet again, that giving guys time to develop is a positive.

He's been doing pretty well. Why the question? Do you think that he needs to be replaced?

I just look for incremental progress. I didn't expect a good season, because that's not what happens when your team is a disaster. I enjoyï seeing some of our new additions make a few plays, and that gives me hope that there is 8ii to build upon. Let's get the QB right, and perhaps the progress will become more perceptible to more people.

You can't expect multiple train wrecks to be handled with precision. The FO had to have a certain amount of dart throws, so of course the results are a mixed bag. But for what we focused on, which was the O-line and the first couple of days of the draft, the plan was kinda obvious. And, you're right; we will see how it turns out. But the expectation should not be perfection. By many many accounts, if you come out of a draft with two legit starters, that's a good draft. I suspect that we may have three (maybe four if we're lucky). It will take a little time, maybe one to three seasons before we can judge the success or failure of the draft.

There was plenty of rhyme or reason to the decisions. We invested in the O-line (and D-line for that matter) in free agency. We took a step back overall on defense in order to invest in the offense. During the draft, we needed a play-making receiver, so we drafted one. We also drafted what many analysts considered the best RB in the draft---a true three-down back with legit play-making potential as well. Moreover, the hope is that Ja'Tavion Sanders will develop into a complete TE as well. All of these weapons will only help a QB in theory, and the offense in general. Of course they didn't exactly abandon the BPA philosophy, so when Wallace was available, they got him. If his 15 tackles yesterday is any indication, as well as his flash plays in earlier games (and the preseason), then there's some reason for optimism. And it's not like we don't need playmakers at LB. As for anyone else, it's a dart throw. Day three picks are truly developmental and hit-or-miss. You should be taking guys that you feel may develop into something more, but if they don't they're not players you'll lose sleep over. Just because you don't agree with the strategy doesn't mean that they didn't have one.

People seem to be forgetting the chasm between Herbert and Young (and Canales and Harbaugh for that matter). I'm with you, I don't see Legette as some classic project. KFD is off on this one in my estimation.

You're just an XL hater. He was never supposed to be Nabers, Odunze or Harrison coming out. But he looks to be a lot better than you're making him out to be. He's not a classic project, he's perhaps a classic first year receiver that needs to learn, that is being brought along slowly, as that's what the coaches want to do. He was drafted right in between Worthy and Keon Coleman. Just from the little bit that I've seen of all three, I suspect that Legette is going to be the most complete pro. Of course the injury bug has reared its ugly fangs, but I'm not mad about drafting Legette at the end of the day. He looks game (as does our third round pick).

Coker was only on my radar because of Smitty. I had literally never heard of the kid and wouldn't have hadn't it been for 89.

And then, you've already been told by NFL insiders that Houston, among others, had Young as the guy. Trying to blame us picking him on Smitty is ridiculous. Blame the scouts and David Tepper.

I watched that off-season closely, and I don't ever remember Smitty saying Mingo was his favorite receiver. In fact Mingo was down the list a little bit. David Tepper wanted Bryce, and to say Smitty affected that decision is ludicrous. Do you remember when Smitty said that Cooper Kupp was the best one in that draft for his money? Funny that Coker has his best day, because Smitty was the first (and only) analyst that I heard praise Coker pre-draft. Smitty is decidedly non-committal on most of the guys and keeps extreme criticism of them to a minimum during the off-season. He keeps it all in perspective, understands context, and advises people who listen to him to do the same. He knows that there's a lot that can play towards a player's success or failure. He basically tells you if a guy has something to work with.

I know that you're probably referencing the "results" part, but the post is funny because "with carefully" is not so detail oriented.

Brian Burns has just one more sack than Haynes this season. LOL

I mean, he was always "there" in my estimation---basically he was as good as he was going to get, which is probably B-level. He was never supposed to be an A-list guy. He's probably the best that we can hope for at the moment.

This didn't age well. I don't know where you got that impression in the first place. I have half-way followed Johnson over the years, and I don't remember him saying anything like that, even as a Steeler.

He's obviously going to have to get his payday. I think that whether we extend him depends upon the terms and expectations. I don't think that we should be in the business of giving talent away unless it's ultimately beneficial to the team. If nothing else, DJ has proven that he's a route god. People here have been saying that's what we need for years, and now you just want to let him walk without even exploring an extension with him? Come on. He's a QB's best friend. You have to at least try.

That may be a tough ask considering that the Raiders want a second and other compensation for Adams.

For who?

One thing that I couldn't get out of my head is that even when he had a clean pocket, he was still bad. He may have been "Carred" by then though. At the end of the day, It's the big boy leagues, and not having a clean pocket and college-open receivers on one of the top teams in the NCAA obviously has been a great culture shock to him. I just don't believe he can cut it not being able to see over the line. If he proves me wrong, more power to him. If he doesn't, which is what I fully expect, he's not the first bust; we just have to take the loss and move on.

Well, the line wasn't good, but I never bought the WRs can't get separation argument. Seeing him again is a nothing burger.
