  1. I mean, Warren just put up one of the best seasons by a TE in a long time (ever, really), and that doesn't impress you? Come on, Wally.
  2. "Just $3 mil," you say. I don't understand why anyone would be upset about incentives. There is a reason they're there: to motivate and bring out the best in a player. I agree with you that we could've saved ourselves roughly $2.5 mil, at least, but it's certainly more risky to gamble on "potential," than to just pay for someone who has already proven themselves to be legit in the NFL. That being said, I'd have probably gambled. But I'm not overly concerned with the contract. There are more interesting things to talk about.
  3. Actually I don't mind incentives, but we still could've gotten a back in the draft or as a UDFA.
  4. I don't think he was acquired for his coverage skills.
  5. Morgan has been a bit underwhelming thus far, but I'll give him another offseason, draft and season before I begin to form some hardening opinions about him. It appears a few here are half-way I praising him for his work in free agency. I don't mind paying or maybe even overpaying a little bit (that's a Panthers tax for sucking for the better part of the last decade) for a bonafide star like Robert Hunt, but I feel like he didn't have to pay Tershawn Wharton or Patrick Jones II as high of a number as he did. We'll see what he does next month on the 24th-26th. Then we'll see what it all boils down to throughout next season. I can't exactly love him or hate him, but as a former Panther, he still has some goodwill in the bank.
  6. Plus, only $30.25 mil is actually guaranteed. Three years and 45 mil, with 9 mil more dependent upon meeting incentives. If it's an overpay, it's a fairly good bet, and a decent way to structure a contract to bring out the best in a player, especially one with a high motor. I mean, I know why some are being decidedly negative, but at some point one must realize that it's not really a doom and gloom situation, and that Wharton's contract is kinda worth the risk. It's relatively low to possibly mid risk, but with a high reward. If this high motor guy balls out, the contract will look good.
  7. You don't know what he is. Secondly, those are not some consensus "rankings," they are grades by analysts or an analyst. Perhaps they have improved over the years (I don't know), but one reason why I stopped giving the draft profiles on NFL.com the highest priority is because I noticed that their information was dated on more profiles that I could count. It appears that they no longer include a date on the analysis (which is probably smart, considering the look). But, Lance Zierlein has had his name on these for years. Make sure you keep that same energy when Warren is killing teams on a weekly basis. I wonder what said in this discussion will be considered "dumb" then... Lastly, assuming everything is updated and provided that you want to give NFL.com (and Lance Zierlein) much credence, then Tyler Warren must be the 4th best player in this draft. Just food for thought.
  8. Yeah, that old saying is theoretically true depending upon how you look at it, but if you look at many guys' careers after-the-fact, you can actually say they were can't miss. In any event, Warren has the talent, the skill, the smarts, and the desire to play the game, and it showed when his name was called. I'm not going to be the one betting against him, as I've seen what he can do, and I would hate to see him on the Saints. That's all I can tell you. Look that gift horse in the mouth at your own peril. In case you missed it: Additionally, I know @kungfoodudesaid something to the effect that everyone's analysis is varies on Warren, but I haven't heard anyone say they aren't a believer.
  9. I disagree. Warren, though a TE, is one of the several players in this draft that truly deserves his first round grade. He is an exclamation point in my opinion. He is basically a can't-miss. I can't say that about any other TE in this draft (not saying that there won't be any other, but it's too easy to miss the farther you get away from the top picks). That being said, you shouldn't necessarily go shopping for a TE in the first, but, in this draft, if Warren is still available while you're on the clock, he must be strongly considered. In my opinion, his ceiling is legitimately a top 5 TE in the league (with the real opportunity to be an historical talent).
  10. As a Georgia alum who watches at least the big games, I can say wholeheartedly that Walker and Starks were more impactful during their time there. Walker would be the only one in the top 10 for me though. Probably is a reach considering his overall production, but I'm skeptical that you could get someone with as high of a ceiling in the second (unless it's him at the top of the second).
  11. I mean we likely won't, but it depends on the dynamics of the evening. We'll find out the night of the draft whether or not we want to take Tet or Tyler. I don't think you can go in there taking things off the table. You let the draft come to you. Moreover, what we do is going to be affected by possible trades and free agency, so making declarations right now is simply yapping.
  12. Alrighty, I just researched the kid after all this Huddle hype. I think he's a get early on day 3 (maybe late day 2 depending upon whether we have any comp picks or any unsuspecting extra picks from a trade). I was expecting some huge tank the way people were talking, but what I see is this short, near-smurf like guy who's...a tank. Positives: His power is undeniable. He has good quickness behind the trenches. His footwork and ability to get past and through the line is good. His contact balance is simply amazing. His hands are legit. He's got some dawg and swag in him--you want him on your team. Negatives: He's a short joker (which may be a positive in certain circumstances, meaning defenders might "lose" him in the scrum), so he may not be able to truck guys as much in the NFL. He obviously has a limited catch radius. His speed, though decent, is not necessarily breakaway, though it may work well enough in combination with his willingness and ability to break tackles. Speaking of seeking contact, his running style might just lead to injuries since he'll be playing against the strongest and best in NFL.
  13. Warren has the potential to be a beast. I don't see what you're not seeing. I've watched him catch, get YAC, hands-catch, run-block angrily, and knows how to get open in the he zone. He's the most legit inline TE that's come out for a while. I think that he has a high floor and a much higher ceiling. If things fall right, he's a top 10 TE from the get.
  14. Honestly, I don't think we're in the right draft position to get a haul, but you never know... To be honest, I think we'd be remiss to pass up on a Tyler Warren, provided that Carter and Graham are off the board (and maybe McMillan also who, not surprisingly in retrospect, didn't participate).
  15. True true, but one man's trash is another's gold. If there's a surprise or micro slide, some GM is going to be chomping at the bit to exploit their newfound opportunity. Moreover, somewhere within their minds will be Michael Penix Jr. and Bo Nix. Someone's gonna call Dan, but will what they're offering get him to move? That will be the question.
  16. Jaxson Dart, Tyler Shough, Quinn Ewers, Brady Cook, Will Howard...?Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders aren't necessarily locks to go before us either--they probably will, but there will be some surprises. A blue chip player, or especially a trade back is still very much a possibility.
  17. You college nerds, my hats off to you, we're relying on your knowledge somewhat.
  18. Not saying you're wrong, but I'll believe it when I see it. I don't see a Pep out there that I can take for granted before he hits the field.
  19. He has been accused once in highschool and once in college. Not a good look. I wouldn't want him on my team.
  20. By the way, Greg Olsen would've been worth it to the Bears had they known how to use him, but they're the ones that fuged up.
  21. I saw what Clark and Shockey did, and there is a huge argument that they were key players in their championship runs (meaning that their respective teams don't win without them). Being a legit receiving threat, but more importantly, a legitimate outlet for your QB, particularly on money downs, is very important. If you want to argue against that, then you're right, we don't have anything more to discuss on this issue. I'm not stumping for Warren either. I've consistently said BPA, and I doubt he's going to be it.
  22. I wouldn't this year, but TEs can be important to the offense, and a QB's best friend depending if they are the right fit. It's not all about simple stats, though the best ones in history put up fairly prolific numbers.
  23. Brock Bowers, and I'm standing on that. Jeremy Shockey and Dallas Clark were probably worth it as well.
