If that is or DL we are really small. Fast but small. Right now the only 2 real DT we have on the roster with any playing time is Brown and Roy. But it's still early and CB is still a real need as well.

The problem with saying the Saints will have to pay for this sooner or later is true, however all the dead money they will have with the voidable years probably won't matter because by the time it all hits, in 2 or 3 years, the NFL will have new TV deals and the cap might be 40 or 50% higher than what it is now. Maybe more since the TV deals are suppose to be about double what they are currently.

The way the Saints do it is the way we did it with CMC and Shaq and every other team does it in the NFL. The take a players current large salary, change it to a signing bonus and then they can spread it out over a 5 year period. It lessens the cap hit for the current year but increases it for subsequent years. It a player only has 1 or 2 years left on his current contract it mean they usually add voidable years at the end of the contract. This ensures that their will always be dead money that hits the cap in the future because when the years void, which they will, the remaining signing bonus hits the cap as dead money unless they sign a new contract. Every team does this, it's just the Saints do it every year and with multiple players a year. It means they will never walk into a offseason with a lot of cap space and they will always have dead money on there books but they will always have room to add a least some players every year. This only really hurts if you have multiple bad drafts in a row and don't have cheap rookies you can rely on to at least give you some playing time.

These first 2 signings scream to me Seahawks. This is what they have done for years. Sign/draft a guy that can play 2 or 3 positions ok and move him around until/if they find a position that he fits in. Why do you think Wilson is thinking about leaving. It's one of those do you want a guy that plays 1 position really well, or a guy that can play 3 positions ok.

Kind of think they want to see if they can get a 2 or 3 year deal instead of just a tender.

The Saints are still $55M over the cap after multiple moves
bababoey replied to Ja Rhule's topic in Carolina Panthers
With turning everyone's base salary to signing bonus and the releases today they are down to 30 million over the cap. And they already have like 175 million count towards the cap in 22. With 25 players on the roster. Good luck. -
Teddy Bridgewater likely on the outs in Carolina
bababoey replied to Verge's topic in Carolina Panthers
I have heard some of the Teddy going back to the Saints talk. I just want to know how? They just converted all of Cam Jordan and Davis base to signing bonus to make more room and they are still 40+ million over the cap. Meanwhile they can't cut either of these guys now until they are like 34. All these "Russell is going to the Saints" and "this guy is going to the Saints" I just wonder how. Maybe in 3 years when the new TV money comes in but not this or next offseason. Hell they got 26 players under contract for 22' and they already have almost 170 million into them. -
It will be more like 2 or 3 million. Remember only the top 51 players count towards the cap in the offseason. So when you add one guy for 4 million another guy that cost 700 or 800,000 comes off the cap. Means that that guy that has a 4 million cap charge really only cost you 3.2 million against the cap.

With the market being what it is this year, alot of guys that get released are going to find that not many teams are going to be giving out big long term contracts. Some of the less desirable position (IOL, DT, non pass rushing LB) may find that they have to settle for cheaper 1 year deals and hope the cap picks back up next year. Guys like Jackson may find that is the case this year.

If he would come here on a deal where he would have a 2 - 3 million cap hit, sure. But more than likely it would be at least double that and until we figure out or QB situation I don't know that we are going to get any skill position players flocking to be here unless we throw a whole bunch of money at them.

Rudolph has gotten really old and slow. Has not had more than 400 yards receiving in either of the last 2 years. 4 years ago, hell yeah, now, hard pass.

Joe Marino The draft network QB scoring and write ups
bababoey replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
I would love for there to be a shift back to more defense and running game but with the TV ratings the way they are for the NFL, don't expect it any time soon. -
This is not really for just the Panthers but for the entire NFL. In about 3 years those 40million a year QB contracts are going to be very cheap. We should sign all the players we think are the core of the team as soon as we can for as long as we can.

From the Athletic How much of a percentage increase from the last rights deal will the NFL ultimately land? It’s hard to put a percentage on it because ESPN is such a wild card, and frankly, Amazon is such a wild card. I would be throwing a dart blindfolded giving you a number. But I can tell you that of the major TV packages, CBS, NBC, Fox and ESPN, I expect all of them to be at or over $2 billion annually. For NBC, CBS and Fox — and this has been reported by others — that’s a 100 percent increase. That’s double the money that they’re paying, and that’s on an average annual basis. Cap space won't be a problem at least for a couple of years for any team once all the TV deals are approved. Fans or no fans

Kiper Mock 2.0: Mac Jones to Panthers at #8.
bababoey replied to Proudiddy's topic in Carolina Panthers
I would not say Lance is the #4. Some places have him as the #3 in front of Fields. Depends on where you look and who you listen to. -
Physical ability has never been the problem for Little. That's the reason Hurney wanted him so bad. If you watch him play at times he looks really good. Then on the next play it looks like he has never seen a football in his life. The problem with Little has always been consistancy. Until he has that you can't trust him to start or really even play

Mostly OT. I heard DJ say 9 may go in the first 2 rounds.

Eagles and Colts reach deal on Wentz trade
bababoey replied to Mr. Scot's topic in Carolina Panthers
I don't know what the Eagles will do right now and I don't think they know either, but New Orleans has the worst cap space in the league. Even after the Wentz trade the Saints are like 20 million more over the cap than the Eagles. -
To everyone crying about beating WFT and it fugging our draft position, you know if Brady would have just run the ball 3 times and use up all of the Vikings time outs and run the clock down we probably beat them. And if they just give the ball to CMC against the Raiders on 4th and 1 we probably beat them too. So thank some bad coaching decisions to even have a chance at one of the top 4 quaterbacks.

This article is about a month old but the first part covers the new TV deals. Except the money part. The current deals are like 10 years old so expect the new deals to be much bigger. That is what the NFL is counting on. https://www.si.com/extra-mustard/2021/01/28/nfl-tv-rights-deals-cbs-fox-nbc-espn-amazon

The problem with Ryan and Jones numbers for this year is right now they are about 30 million over the cap. If they take some of the base salary and turn it into signing bonus, which is the easy way to cheat the cap, it makes them even harder to cut in 22 or 23 because they will have more dead money involved. So the Falcons need to free up about 30 million while not touching Ryan's or Jones contract so they can cut them in 22 or 23. Good luck.

I don't see how anyone that watched the games when Star and Short was here could come away saying Star was better. I remember Star's last year here and everyone was saying on this board how they were so glad we signed Short and not Star.
