Fat Alice was the beginning of the end.

For a single season it’s a tough nut to crack. That group was special. Too bad we never got it for more than 1 season.

Things to consider: -Smith was the only receiving threat the majority of his career -Smith never had a “franchise QB” -Smith was never in a pass 1st offense -Smith played when rules favored defense -Smith is the only player since Sterling Sharpe to win the triple crown -Smith is the only player in playoff history with a rush/receiving/return TD in a single post season -Smith is behind only these Legends: Rice, Larry Legend, Tony Gonzalez, Jason Witten, Harrison, Carter, Brown, TO, Boldin, Wayne, and Andre Johnson. (Those other guys had some HOF QBs tossing pigskins their way or were pass heavy offenses) Smith achieved what he achieved with less help than any of his statistical peers. Andre Johnson might have the closest scenario, but Smitty is 5’9. There’s no other way to put it. It should not have been possible to do what that little man did. He did it, and he did it better than anyone else ever could in the same situation. Not pound for pound or any of that nonsense, Smitty holds his own without qualifiers or quantifiers. Agent 89 is a case study in will power, determination and dominance.

I'll take it.

So does that mean CB1 and QB1 need to bare knuckle box in the end zone like in '15 too?

Many many GMs have come and gone thinking that very thing.

The closest thing to a must-win game in years?

In February looking back? Not at all. Songs would be written. but… the 6 days between Sunday #1 and Sunday #2 will be dark and fraught with danger. Even after a week 2 and 3 victory it’ll still be prickly around here. -
Bleacher Report article mentioning Darnold.

It was tough to hear the allegations, I too felt a certain gratitude for getting us a team. That doesn't excuse the Hurney experience, hiring only defensive minded coaches, nepotism and general ass-hattery behind the scenes.

Christian McCaffrey - Back to Pre-Injury Form?
L-TownCat replied to Greatman77's topic in Carolina Panthers
The 2 times I’ve seen him mentioned both involved the phrase “long TD run.” -
There is no good time for an injury. They happen. Let’s him work up a sweat, get in a rhythm, then sit him after a score of possible. It shouldn’t require a ton of reps to turn and hand it to 22. That’s gonna happen a lot.

My Fan Fest Thoughts and Observations...
L-TownCat replied to firstdayfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
It’s the strangest paradox I’ve come across in my fandom. DJ looks like he’s paying bills, balancing his checkbook and organizing his sock drawer when in reality he just caught a slant over the middle broke two tackles and floated 65 yards into the end zone. Anybody else does that, they make headlines. DJ does it and folks are asleep before he crosses the goal line. It the craziest thing I’ve encountered as a Panthers fan. -
That jersey is vintage, son. That might be from ‘03. Looks crisp too. My mans knows how to store a jersey. That’s what’s up. I’ve got about 30 myself.

I’m with ya. Finite topics to discuss, months of dead time. Not a good recipe for engaging content. Thus, the folks over on Mint and Moorehead decided to be the gatekeepers of TC content.

The Good Ole Waiver Wire - Your Friend and Mine
L-TownCat replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
2 weeks. We have Horn/Jackson/Pride/Stanley-Oliver/Taylor and others. We can probably hold off on CB to maybe address other more pressing needs…*cough* LT *cough* You’re right about the LT market. Something crazy would have to shake loose to change it. Still need one tho. LB is tough. Health and depth are real concerns. The other issue is we’ve accumulated talent up front, on the edges, the corners, and the back side. Can we reasonably expect to have budding stars at all 3 levels? If we can get “steady” play out of the LBs, I think we’ll be looking really good. -
I think that’s his point. The appearance being that the interest/excitement in our own team is so low that after a week of TC the hot topics are TB12 and DW? It doesn’t bother me, personally. TC and preseason were always the salad and breadsticks to the regular season main course. It’ll work to hold you over, but don’t fill up.

Ted Debiase would stuff a $50 bill in his mouth and leave him unconscious in the middle of the ring.

Is it a real pass? Is he gonna put some stank on it, or is he gonna limp wrist lob one? I do have my pride.

Are you talking about the Cajun filet sandwich and it’s better bacony brother the Cajun Filet Club Sandwich? Ive been eating those since the late 90’s. Cajun filet biscuit is still the champ, but I like that club. -
