Party too much and didn't study. Put it together and righted the ship. Sounds extremely familiar. Doesn't need to be the week one starter. If he turns out to be a gem then great. If he ends up being a competent backup, you got your third round value. Verdict is still out but I think it is a positive and rational step in upgrading the position that desperately needs to be upgraded.

I think before doing this they might want to see A bit more of Corral. If they see the body of work and deem it worth getting a non Sam QB then maybe they pull the trigger on a competent mentor. Otherwise just ride it out with Sam.

Taking unforeseen injuries out of the equation, I think the odds of Winston pooing the bed are much higher than Brady morphing into a turd.

I think I can agree with you that there is a strong possibility that he will have his best year ever. Even with that I don’t think that means he is a legitimate starter in this league. It might not 100% his fault as I think he is conditioned to go 1, 2 I’m about to get killed if I don’t make a play. He had these tendencies when drafted and his experience with the Jets and Panthers only reinforced that. I think having more confidence in the line may marginally improve this but not enough for redemption. I hope I’m off base and would love it if you can post an “I told you so” rebuttal after next season.

I think they have to try because there is the appeal factor that pulls ratings. Aikman is coming to mind as being decent behind the microphone. When you get down to it I dont see anything particularly special about him other than he just has a matter of fact oh shucks type approach that people seem to accept. I dont see charisma but it comes across as genuine. Brees never connected.

I think the team needs to make a decision about this very soon. I know there was talk about a trade to buffalo that didnt happen but I suspect they are secretly shopping him and looking at options.

Just listening to him speak is reassuring. He has a calm confidence about him that just impresses me. He doesn't sound like a 21/22 year old fresh out of college. He strikes me as being cerebral like Gross and at the same time nasty like Norwell.

Better protection and a better offense installed will likely lead to Sam looking better. He may even look better than he ever has. But I think he will still see the ghosts and still have the same problems that ultimately limit him from being the answer at QB for the Panthers or any other NFL team.

This sums it up nicely. My hope is, at a minimum, he can prove that he is better than Darnold. If he can show you that then you have a fairly cheap backup for a few years and keep swinging.

Efflien and Irving are expensive backups but I think they should be solid in backup roles. Even Dayley might be a rotational player. Problem is we have soured on these guys because they were put in a position to start when they have no business starting in this league.

To borrow a phrase from a previous GM. If we are looking for a vet Fitt isn’t shopping hungry.

This is the right path. If Corral isn’t the answer they can take another swing at qb next year. Build the core and we will get there.

He was asked an awkward question and he gave a canned answer. He probably knows the clock is ticking but he also knows he has a guaranteed contract. If he loses sleep at night I don’t think it’s over this. Yet…

just some random ramblings I’m impressed by Ickey. Dude is poised in front of a microphone. I think his dad is a doctor. I think Motons mom is a professor in college. These guys have some serious smarts in their genes.

I don’t know much about Teddy but my first impression is this dude had a lot of fun in college.

Coach speak is to say Sam is our starter. While they hope Corral can take over immediately, he still hasn’t thrown a pass in the NFL. Imagine if he came out and said we just got Sam a shipment of clipboards so he has something to do on Sundays. just can’t do that.

Call me crazy but I dont think Tepper made his bazillion dollars so he could play Robin to Jerry Jone's Batman. The Panthers will become "The Not Dallas Cowboys Football Team in the Greater Dallas Area" Anything is possible but I doubt it.

I don't know what Corral brings but I think there is a good shot is that his floor is an improvement over Darnold.

Taylor also got some playing time and should be in the mix (one hopes). I think you have some contributors from '21. Not all-pro type players but they can stick and give you a solid rotation. Agree that Marshall needs to show something.
