  1. So in your professional football opinion, there have been no good professional talent evaluators in the NFL since the beginning of NFL time since picks have ALWAYS been traded for other draft picks in this league. That is the logical conclusion to what you are saying, right? That heel31ok has discovered the ULTIMATE secret to the NFL Draft Code that *no* other professional football draft evaluator has ever been able to crack?
  2. I think Conference Champions and teams that go to the SuperBowl tend toward the "golle gee awesome". But that's just me. I guess its others prerogative to think teams like that suck if they want. :P
  3. That's a good point. I will tell you, however, in the 2nd Round discussion thread that I was insane enough to defend that choice. :P (The Raiders used a 1st rounder on Sebastian Janikowski in what? 2000? People were shocked by that pick (and it was a shocking pick). Was he worth that pick in the year 2000? Not even close. Has he made that pick worthwhile over his 16 year NFL career? AB-SO-LUTELY (IMO). I see Aguayo in the same category using the same lens.)
  4. Yes, which is why KB's return, along with Olsen, is going to be so much better for us in the red zone (even though we were pretty darned good this year).
  5. Maybe, maybe not. That 49ers defense was damned stout with guys like Justin Smith, Glenn Dorsey, Ray McDonald, Navarro Bowman, Patrick Willis, Ahmad Brooks, Donte Whitner. Short yardage goal line running plays in the NFL are probably the most difficult plays to execute in the NFL against very good defenses, even when a team has stout interior OL play and a good RBs.
  6. Here are the OT picked after the Round 5 pick of Sanchez: Caleb Benenoch, UCLA Joe Haeg, North Dakota State Kyle Murphy, Stanford Alex Lewis, Nebraska Brandon Shell, South Carolina Halapoulivaatie Vaitai, TCU John Theus, UGA Fahn Cooper, Ole Miss Cole Toner, Harvard I don't see a single one of the OTs listed above as a significant improvement over what can be found in the UDFA field or as a post-May 11 FA signee or after training camp cuts IMO.
  7. That's a great point. But I'm thinking that in DG's mind there's not a huge difference in the OL guys you can get by drafting them in lower rounds as compared to the ones he can dig up in the UDFA pile that he can (hopefully) find a gem.
  8. IMO the offensive line is the most difficult position to evaluate and, even then, a highly rated "fit" can still be a failure in the NFL. Just look at the highly drafted OTs that have come in the league over the last few years that everyone thought would be great players and anchors. Many people thing OL is like caveman "ug... ball snap then push guy hard"... but, to me, its probably the most difficult position to play on the field. Especially OT. Which makes it VERY difficult to find players that not only fit your offensive scheme but can successfully translate to the NFL level of performance and physicality.
  9. Arkansas was and is one of the most run-heavy offenses in college football and Henry was a huge part of its success. Wherever you read that he "sucked" at run blocking, you might want to just block those guys because they're idiots.
  10. That was also in the day where all a TD did was block and it was a common when only 1 WR was in on the play. In other words, every the OL was stacked to run the ball. Its the rare case you see less than 2 WR on a play and its pretty common to see 3. "Pounding the ball" ain't as simple as it used to be. Teams used to be able to score from the 3 yard line and in on a running play rather frequently. How many times do you see RBs score on a direct hand-off inside power from the 3 yard line and in today?
  11. 100% disagree. A WR like Sterling Shepherd that can play the slot and has make-em-miss run-after-the-catch breakaway ability is absolutely something this team is missing on offense. A physical running game? We've got that already.
  12. Booker is a very good running back, ran out of the read-option in college, and also showed good pass blocking and receiving skills, and was thought to be one of the best running backs in the country in both 2014 and 2015. And could probably be got with a 3rd round pick (maybe even a 4th since he's currently injured). Again, with options like this, I can't fathom spending a 1st rounder on a RB that is pretty much commonly considered a 2nd round value at the highest.
  13. If we had to guarantee one or the other between Shepherd and D. Henry, my preference would be to pick Shepherd with the 1st round pick and then try to trade up for Henry in the 2nd. Because I think Shepherd would be soooooooooooooo much more valuable in this offense than Henry. He would bring an aspect to this offense that it is missing, whereas Henry only provides a younger version (if he ends up being worth the pick) of what we already have.
  14. Adding great young players that can perform now but also will be potential future starters also improves an offense. Greg Olsen and Jonathan Stewart ain't gonna be here forever. Which one of the two plays a position that is more easily replaceable with LOWER value draft picks in today's NFL?
  15. See, therein lies the problem... he DOESN'T fit. Just because he's a "hard" runner doesn't make him a fit. Dude has never run a read-option play with a read-option QB in his life.
  16. In terms of value to this offense now and in the near term, I would put both Hunter Henry and Ryan Kelly in front of Derrick Henry.
  17. I like both picks, but since our 3rd round pick this year is almost (basically) a 4th rounder, I don't see it having enough value to move us up from the second-to-last-pick in the 2nd round to picking in the top four to five picks in the 2nd round. But if Big Dave can do it, then I'm all for it.
  18. I'm glad I read forward in this thread. I was within mere seconds of putting my full geek on and correcting you myself. :P (P.S. But he's right, Frodo was *extremely* reluctant to leave the Shire.)
  19. I unwisely chose to dive into the Denver message board cesspool. HOLY CRAP those fuggers are dumb as poo. Their key to winning seems to be Magic NFL Fairy Dust and The NFC Sucks.
  20. How many conference championship games have ended with the backup QB under center? lololololol
