Scott Fitterer.... let's grade his drafts and FA signings
trueblade replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
Exactly. We're going to have to evaluate Rhule/Fitterer and Fitterer/Reich separately. You could even get more granular and really evaluate it as: 2021 - Rhule/Fitterer 2022 - Rhule/Fitterer/Morgan 2023 - Fitterer/Morgan/Reich -
He's 64. This is probably his last gig. I don't think he cares.

Reich’s description of a QB: It’s basically Corral
trueblade replied to Wundrbread33's topic in Carolina Panthers
Matt has had a year to work on a more challenging playbook than he had at Ole Miss, but he'll be just like every other starter on April 1st learning a brand new system. The injury concern remains, but the bottom line is, if we draft a 1st round QB, that player is going to be given every opportunity to win the job. -
Frank Reich's Intro Presser - Today, Noon EST
trueblade replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
Shouldn't it be Corral and Jacob Eason? So two? -
I feel confident this question about who will be calling the offense will come up in the press conference on Tuesday.

Joe Person on possible coordinator candidates
trueblade replied to ncfan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Wasn't there something in that other thread that said Reich was going to be Wilks OC? Now, it was Johnson? -
I think you could make a reasonable case that if you don't hire Reich as HC, you don't get him as OC. Reich would have likely taken the Chargers OC job if his choice was between being the Panthers OC and the Chargers OC. Herbert versus no QB. Chargers weapons are probably considered better than current Panthers weapons.

Keeping Campen likely increases our odds of resigning Bozeman. Win-win.

Which would mean comp picks for the Panthers, correct? -
Burrow wears outfits every bit as outrageous as what Cam got flak over, but he's "Joe Cool."

This is starting to get nasty with coach wilks.

Put the two resumes side by side and take off the names. You're really trying to say you'd take Wilks? -

You said "could make an argument that he didn't get offers because teams assumed he was going to be the Panthers coach" And I'm saying that's not how NFL teams think or work. -

You don't just look at last year. You look at the full resume. This isn’t a bashing Wilks. He did a tremendous job, and deserves a HC. But if you put the two resumes side by side and took off the names, you're picking the Reich resume every time. -

Not saying that at all. I'm saying if another team thought he was one of the best options, they would have interviewed regardless of if they thought he might get the Carolina job. -

That's not the way the NFL works, at all. You think the guy is one of the best options on the market, you bring him in. It happens every coaching search cycle. -
I'd question including Seattle with Indy, Houston and Chicago. Seattle was a decent to average team in 2022. I wouldn't bet on Pete Carroll having a losing record. I always go into the season assuming we'll split the division games. Those are always tough since the teams knew each other, though we will have the advantage of being the only team in the NFC South with a new coaching staff.

Historical data indicates we should expect the 2023 NFC South Champion to have at least 10 wins. Every previous time a division has been won by a sub-.500 team (and TB finished 8-9), the following season the division winner had at least 10 wins. Granted the sample size is small and negative regression is still a possibility. Example: Here's the last three years of NFC East champions: 2020 - 7-9 2021 - 12-4 2022 - 14-2

Total Access gave the hire about 10 seconds of coverage and never mentioned Wilks. Eisen discussed the hire on "The Rich Eisen Show". Spent most of the segment talking about the other jobs. Never mentioned Wilks.

"I want the coordinator involved in hiring their side of the ball." Sounds like no decision on Campen until we have an OC.

His answer on quarterback: 1. Toughness (mental and physical) 2. Decision maker 3. Accurate passer 4. play maker / elevate team in key moments (3rd down, red zone, 2 minute) 5. X factor / leadership This should provide a rubric for looking at the rookie QB class.
