Let's accept that Sam was talking was in general about the last few weeks. It's still not a great look to bring up your team mate. Then there's also this little factoid:

One thing to consider: if your HC isn't the play caller/ OC , you'll lose your play caller/ OC to a head coach promotion if you have a level of success.

Sparano has previously NFL head coaching experience. He'd make a viable interim if Rhule is a mid-season firing in 2022.

I have a buddy who is a huge Colts fan but isn't high on Eberflus. Apparently, the guy goes soft zone with a lead and his D has blown double digit leads multiple times this year alone. Also, if you look at Indy, they are the same 'run the ball, play great defense, QB don't give the game away' style favored by Fox/Rivera/Capers.
