  1. The video is edited. Any of those Devil's advocate comments wouldn't have been included. Rhule has final say. He said go get Darnold. The video was made to hype the move to the fans.
  2. I'd expect Rhule to dictate moves that give him the best chance of still being employed after the season. I'd anticipate he'd want to acquire a Jimmy G level QB to compete with Darnold unless he thinks a rookie like Pickett gives him a mulligan (though that strategy didn't work out for Nagy). Loyalty and guys who are "bought in" to Rhule will be paramount to him. This could possibly explain the recent move to resign Thomas as Ian is 'bought in'. As for Tepper's motivation, I'm speculating that maybe he still wants Kevin Colbert as a consultant/football czar. He knows he can't get Colbert until after the draft so he's giving Rhule/Fitterer another go at it. If Rhule/Fitt pull a rabbit out of their hat, and have a successful season, Tepper looks like a genius for his 'patience'. If they don't, Tepper can clear the deck and let Colbert have broad discretion with little pushback.
  3. Biggest hurdle is the murderer's row of QBs in the AFC. You're probably going to have to go through some combination of Mahomes, Allen, Herbert, and Lamar in the playoffs. If Lawrence or Wilson develop into that type of QB it could be even worse. I'm not a Jones fan, but Belichick still brings a nasty defense. AFC is loaded.
  4. Go back and look at some of the threads before the Cowboys game and I think you'll see the needle has indeed moved on Darnold.
  5. I've mentioned this before, but can I caution the Huddle to slow down on the Horn evaluation. Many parts of the team looked much better the first three weeks than they turned out to be over the course of the season. Imagine, for a moment, that it is Darnold who gets knocked out for the year in Week 3 rather than Horn. Most of the Huddle would have a very different view of Sam right now if all we had seen was the same three weeks we are crowning Horn for.
  6. Our schedule in 2022 looks to be more difficult than what we faced in 2021. We will face the NFC West and AFC North next season. Two divisions that are strong top to bottom. This means we'll play both Super Bowl participants plus a third team from Championship Weekend. There's still the off-season but those teams tend to be well run.
  7. This would make it easier to bring back Payton as HC should be want to return in 2023. I believe the Saints control Payton's rights until 2024.
  8. Smith was let go so Tampa could retain Dirk Koetter. Koetter was seen as the catalyst for Winston's development and was getting HC consideration around the league. Rather than lose him, TBB prompted him to HC so he could develop Winston. It turned out to not be a great plan.
  9. 7 of 9 head coach positions filled. Zero head coaches of color hired.
  10. These are the same excuses I heard when I dared to criticize the great Will Grier for his Senior Bowl performance. We all saw how that worked out. (Apologies to Pootie, I didn't intend to quote you but the Huddle wouldn't let me delete it).
  11. That didn't work out so well for Nagy in Chicago. They drafted the rookie and still got canned.
  12. I actually agree with you that he should jump now before he looks even worse next season. I have serious doubts Matt Rhule sees it that way. You don't get to where Matt Rhule is without a very healthy ego. People with ego like that don't tend to look at things the way you're describing. In Rhule's mind, I would anticipate he expects the new hires on offense to dramatically improve that side of the ball. Coupled with what he believes is still a top flight defense, I'm confident he expects next year to go better.
  13. So you're saying Rhule turned down shots at USC and Oklahoma, but he's going to jump for Minnesota or Iowa State? I don't find that to be a likely outcome.
  14. Ice stopped at 2014. 2013's draft class was terrible top to bottom. There's a chance 2022 is every but as bad a QB class as 2013's.
  15. Possibly. But the Campen hire may indicate McAdoo has significant pull on the offensive side of the ball. McAdoo's appraisal of Picket and the other draft eligible prospects could carry more weight on draft day.
  16. If you're the superstitious type, tomorrow will ring in the Chinese New Year. 2022 is the Year of the Tiger.
  17. More than perfect. SF needed a blocked punt to beat Green Bay. That's a rare play.
  18. Having an actual NFL coach in the room increases the chance of success by several orders of magnitude.
  19. Past performance is no guarantee of future returns.
  20. Dangerous pass into double coverage. I want no part of Jimmy G in a Panthers uniform.
  21. Surprised the Rams are still playing Akers after his fumble issues last week.
